I addressed it to Dean Deal and sent it to admissions@law.stanford.edu.forthewin wrote:Regarding LOCIs, who did you guys address it to and what email address did you send it to?
Got a receipt confirmation a couple of hours later.

Hello group, general concensus on sending a LOCI if you've only been under review since the end of January? (Thank you statement from undergrad Dean
). I know it might seem over eager (especially because I dont have any updates to my application) but I also think I can write something of substance on my specific interests in S.
PS Can we PLEASE stop the Berkeley chatter ITT. Geneva, you do know they're rivals right? I did my UG at Cal 8 years ago and the school is great/awesome town. Congratulations on Boalt that's a great option for you...but we cannot predict the likelihood of admission into Stanford for you.

Only Berkeley students think Stanford and Berkeley are rivals.
ETA: I say this as a California native who didn't get into Stanford UG but knew a good number of students at both schools.

It definitely lessens the sting of Harvard's hold. That's for sure.amc987 wrote:Hah, I was waiting for this. I thought that you and 1212 might be feeling pretty good right about now. Esp because you still haven't heard from H yet right??AmandaPB wrote:NUMBER TWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OMG OMG OMG
Also, is it bad that I am playing Call Me Maybe on repeat and wishing Dean Deal would do the calling? Goodness gracious, what I wouldn't do for some love from the 650!
I am hoping Dean Deal calls you too!!! I think you'll hear from The Farm before long!

Re: Stanford c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I understand your concern here and maybe you should hold off on the LOCI for now. I've been under review since 11/01 and I only sent in an updated resume with new work experience recently. On the Stanford admissions blog from last year, can't remember exactly where sorry, it said that LOCI should add only new material and not inundate the admissions office with irrelevant material. So this will have to be your call. But, if you feel that you can add something meaningful to your application then you may consider sending it in. Your application should still be pretty fresh going UR at the end of January, but ultimately it's your call.Whisper wrote:Hello group, general concensus on sending a LOCI if you've only been under review since the end of January? Oh you're funny. I wont entertain your remark by engaging you in coversation but thanks for the laugh.Mista Bojangles wrote:Only Berkeley students think Stanford and Berkeley are rivals.

Chucky21, thanks for the response. That's what I was thinking. It's nice to have it confirmed by someone else. I'll wait a bit longer.

so after their 'vacation' I hope Dean Deal doesn't continue with her 1-2 calls per week....hopefully she makes up for this silence (bumps it up to at least 5). She must really be having a difficult time going through the soft hold apps.

Re: Stanford c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I mean, it's true. One thing all Stanford and Berkeley students have in common is that they all got into Berkeley. It's not like this is a groundbreaking thing to suggest. And I say this as someone denied admission at Stanford UG (and admitted at Cal), so it isn't like I have a personal agenda here.Whisper wrote:Oh you're funny. Like I said, I knew a good number of students at each school, and in my experience Stanford kids don't really get worked up over Cal; it's inferiority complex-ridden Cal kids who are the ones talking about the alleged "rivalry" between them.
ETA: Football rivals maybe, but even that hasn't been the case so much in recent years.

You think Stanford and Berkeley's cross admits are that high? Wow.
The rivalry is pretty real both ways in sports, though.

The "What do Stanford and Berkeley students have in common? They all got into Berkeley" joke bounces around a fair amount, but obviously it's based in truth (though of course it's not 100% true).Perdevise wrote:You think Stanford and Berkeley's cross admits are that high? Wow.

Based on their regular banter during football season, I'd say there is at least some substance to the rivalry.

I read about the Big Play on wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Play) and it sounds like the most incredible sports event ever.YesNoMaybe wrote:Stanford undergrad here. I'm no hater, I like Berkeley a lot (was realllll close to going there for UG, visited friends there frequently, love the area etc.). And I tend toward rooting for Cal among CA sports teams (though that might change pretty quickly if I were lucky enough to get a call from Dean DealYesNoMaybe wrote:Stanford undergrad here. I missed the part where we decided Stanford is going on break?

Re: Stanford c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
What do you guys make of the lower GPA stats for this past year? The graph in the rankings mania thread listed them as 3.93-3.85-3.72 (vs. last year's 3.97-3.88-3.72). Is this significant in any way? Or just a slight fluctuation?
ETA: Oops, I was looking at last year's stats listed in the ABA official guide, not the USNews ones. They're different for whatever reason. There's not much change when you compare the GPA stats listed this year and last year in the USNews rankings. Never mind about that.

haha i actually did not know they are rivals. have only been to the west coast once in my life and i was there less than 24 hours. thank you for the info on both fronts.Whisper wrote:Hello group, general concensus on sending a LOCI if you've only been under review since the end of January?
