Is it possible that they will give me a grant for my second year if my financial situation changes? I have a job and some savings right now, but these will be gone next year.
Also was I supposed to have this before I got the award?
* You must have a current Direct Stafford and/or a Direct Graduate Plus Master Promissory Note (MPN) on file with the U.S. Department of Education.
It's based on each year's fafsa so if you currently have a job, then I think your EFC will be roughly the same for next year. That is if you work all the way up until August.
No grants for me either, I knew I should had cleared out my savings account before I submitted. dammit
just spend all your savings on booze and hookers and you'll be good to go for next year

Not yet. But it's between Hastings and Davis at this point. I'm going to the Davis ASD on April 10th so my decision will be made within a month. Though I must say Davis will have some convincing to do...
Attn Hastings: A scholarship would really help make my decision easier!

do you mean scholarship? seems kind of weird to offer a grant and then request 15k EFC

nope it's def the grant, which is why I thought it was so weird they expected me to contribute so much

just curious (if anyone is willing to disclose personal details) -- for those receiving grants, can you post your existing student loan debt (from undergrad) + personal savings + EFC?

Yeah, I also had about 15k EFC, but I didn't get any grants. It does say my expected assistance (from outside sources) is the amount I listed on Need Access (4500 for the year). I guess the key was to lie and say my parents were not going to aid me.

I have still not received any word either way (in/wl/not in) from UC Hastings, Davis, or Irvine. What is the deal. Just let me know already. Anyone else still waiting?

I also think that self reporting current and future financial resources/savings probably means some applicants, maybe many, lie on their need access. To prevent this, all schools should ask for students and parents to submit their tax returns as a final step in the need based granting process. Stanford already does this, but I don't think the UCs or most schools for that matter do the same, which actually is really surprising considering all the money involved.
