I did not write a Why Mich, no. That could be it, I guess.
Each day I check the status checker, it says that it had been last updated that day (it currently says it was last updated January 6) -- not sure if that's par for the course or if that's indicative of there being some sort of issue.

That's, unfortunately, par for the course.Tela1283 wrote:I did not write a Why Mich, no. That could be it, I guess.

Michigan is one of the ones that cares most about the Why essay, I think -- they want you to show a genuine interest in the school. Honestly any of the optional essays probably work for that role, but Why Mich is the most straight forward.Tela1283 wrote:I did not write a Why Mich, no. That could be it, I guess.

I believe that other people ITT have had success emailing in a Why Mich essay after submitting the app. You might want to consider that -- it's also probably the only way to subtly nudge them to check your app and make sure nothing's wrong.
To answer your other question, Mich's status checker changes every day for every one (except for a few Sundays where it hasn't updated for anyone). The updates don't mean anything, except that the status is only updated once a day, so once you've checked and seen the day's status, you don't need to check again. ETA: scooped

If you wrote two of the other optional essays, you shouldn't submit a Why Michigan essay. I believe they ask for a maximum of two essays.Tela1283 wrote:I did not write a Why Mich, no. That could be it, I guess.

True. Although even if that's the case you could email the office and ask if they would accept a Why Mich.riverwater wrote:If you wrote two of the other optional essays, you shouldn't submit a Why Michigan essay. Should I apply to Michigan? I have a fee waiver.
I don't have much of an organic interest in attending, but I'm about a 65% admit according to myLSN. Considering my goals are to work in New England, and I've read that other schools in the t14 make much more sense for that than Michigan does, I haven't bothered. But maybe I should for potential negotiation purposes?

I'm in! (I think).
I didn't get any e-mail, phone call, or physical mail but after seeing a lot of decisions on here I went into the status checker and it says I'm in, so I assume that's correct.
Submitted 11/21. Awesome LSAT. GPA < 25th. Wrote "Why Michigan." Above average softs and LOR (in my opinion).
Good luck all who are still waiting (and check your status checkers).

Yep, the status checker is the standard way to find out. You should get a physical letter & packet soon, though.IrishJew wrote:I'm in! (I think).

In!!! Applied 11/14, complete 12/6 and accepted today! LSAT just above median with an international 'superior' rather than a GPA. I wrote two optional essays. This is my second time applying so my 'why UM' essay was more of a 'I'm applying again, doesn't that show I care...'.
Congratulations to everyone else accepted today.

Re: Michigan Applicants C/O 2017 (Applicants 2013-2014)
Congrats to all the new admits!!
Has anyone sent in their fall semester grades? I sent mine but I'm not sure if the committee will get them before they make a decision on my application (Applied around November 20th, complete since mid-December). I'm kind of nervous because my grades pushed my GPA up from 3.85 to 3.87, which would put me in the 75% range. With an LSAT that is slightly below the median, I'm hoping the extra points will put me in a better position to be admitted.
I guess my question is, should I call up the admissions council to let them know about my incoming grades or leave it be?

Their 75th is 3.82, isn't it? Since you're already above it, I wouldn't bother.LawSchoolHopeful5 wrote:Congrats to all the new admits!!

Did you status checker update first thing in the morning (i.e. the automatic date change that happens on the daily) or did it happen later in the day?

I could be wrong, but I thought that the update only happened once a day in the morning?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
