Gin mill. Half off all drinks from noon to 8pm everyday. Daily specials after 8pm. Between 81 and 82 on Amsterdam. Great deals, awesome people, and it's a common place for Fordham bar events. Getting to know the bartenders is ideal. I never pay more than $19 there.

Nice place, except that it's about 20 minutes hoofin' it from Fordham.JenDarby wrote:Gin mill. Half off all drinks from noon to 8pm everyday. Daily specials after 8pm. Between 81 and 82 on Amsterdam. I grew up in the neighborhood (68th between bway and amsterdam). If you like Gin Mill there are some good bars on the same block. Bourbon Street has a beat the clock special. 50 Cent beers starting at like 7 and the price goes up from there. I haven't been in a few years but its fun.dingbat wrote:Nice place, except that it's about 20 minutes hoofin' it from Fordham.JenDarby wrote:Gin mill. Half off all drinks from noon to 8pm everyday. This is the best choice if you want to stay REALLY close to Fordham. There are always SBA nights there, so may as well get used to the place.MikeTheWilliams wrote:Someone said it before but Lincoln Park.

I vote Lincoln Park. I'm not really familiar with any of those bars but if its closer to Fordham then it seems like a good choice for people here who aren't so well versed in New York geography.

First time posting on TLS!
Got my acceptance email yesterday at 5:01, so there was more than one person..and it specifically said that the second ASD is right around the corner and that they hoped I could attend (I live in NYC-area so it didn't matter to me that it was short notice). I believe there is a third one, so perhaps they'll invite you to that one if you hear back today or tomorrow?
Super excited and looking forward to meeting some of you on Saturday =)

Re: Fordham c/o 2015/16 (2011-2012 Cycle)
People not from NYC will most likely take the subway to get to Fordham in the first place, so I think they'll get some practice in. I suggest that whoever wants to go to Lincoln Park goes there, and whoever wants to go to the Gin Mill goes there. Since there seem to be quite a few of us interested in going, we are probably going to break into smaller groups anyway when we go out after ASD no matter where we all end up.confusedlaw wrote:gin mill is much better jendarby is right its a quick train ride, people not from ny should get used to the subwaysalso

I know shit. I do love wine. And cheese. I also would like to go out with people afterwards...but my mom is flying in and is dying to spend time with me and we're going to see the Book of Mormon that night. I guess I could do Broadway belligerent.legallyblonde817 wrote:SmbdyBringMeSomeHam wrote:You can stay for only part of it and then leave...e-mail them in advance if you're going to be late, though, so they know to expect you after sign-in/registration has ended. Or is it normal for people to leave a little early? It's my only day in New York and I was thinking about leaving after the breakout sessions (or at least before the wine/cheese reception) and was just wondering if anyone here has gone to one and left early??ASDs are more about the schools impressing the students than vice versa.
But whooooo could leave before wine and cheese.... its wine... and cheese... two of my favorite things... after pocketbooks and shoes of course...

Laptops aren't permitted in 2/3 of my classes this semester. He/She might be on to something. If nothing else, all you need to do it be able to type in a box and press a couple buttons to successfully take your finals. If you can't manage that, there are students in every room during finals there to assist you with pushing said button.SmbdyBringMeSomeHam wrote:I would probs get on that before starting law school. Also, there's no reason why you can't/shouldn't go to both Lincoln Park AND Gin Mill.

Fair enough, but there's also a need to do on-line research (e.g. Westlaw) and then, chances are, you will need considerable computer skills when you get a job after graduation. It's just a practical lifeskill for our generation. Also, I'm sure that prosen was probably joking, but then again, so was I.JenDarby wrote:Laptops aren't permitted in 2/3 of my classes this semester. He/She might be on to something. I am most definitely going to take advantage of the button-pushing assistance on finals. I just may succeed after all!SmbdyBringMeSomeHam wrote:Fair enough, but there's also a need to do on-line research (e.g. Westlaw) and then, chances are, you will need considerable computer skills when you get a job after graduation. I'm rarely ever serious. Though, there seriously are people sitting in your room during finals who can assist you with button pushing and the like.SmbdyBringMeSomeHam wrote:Fair enough, but there's also a need to do on-line research (e.g. Westlaw) and then, chances are, you will need considerable computer skills when you get a job after graduation. One more serious thing. You are forced to take a research class which is painfully boring (P/NP) and repetitiously instructs you how to do these things. If you have trouble you're more than welcome to pay attention. Otherwise you can check ESPN/shop online/TLS/whatever else you will inevitably do during boring classes.
