Re: University of North Carolina 2013
May 1? Really?? I don't understand why they extended the deadline for applications if they were SOOO behind... that makes absolutely no sense. I guess UNC thinks they're just so amazing that they can force a bunch of prospective students to a) spend up to $500 for seat deposits at other schools or b) just put all their eggs in UNC's basket.
I really like Chapel Hill and UNC and everything but ugh, why do they make it so difficult?

My brother (a UNC Law grad) warned me that UNC had the worst (and most unpredictable) admissions office in the country. I had really hoped that he was wrong, and somehow UNC would come through for me. Looks like he was right.

My upcoming deposit is $750 and I'm going to be very upset if unc makes me throw it away. That's just not nice!
I am astounded with the lack of courtesy their phone answerers have. Maybe if they put up a status checker I wouldn't call to see if they had even looked at my application.
Omg I can't believe they said that about the caller ID thing!
UNC needs a serious dose of humble pie.

I was. Emory pretty much ruled themselves out due to insane cost, $68k/year. Without a scholarship, didn't make sense for me. Likely WD'ing.UFLS2013 wrote:anyone deciding between emory and unc? thoughts?
I'm still considering UNC; but for me, other schools have really grabbed my attention. As frustrated as I am with some aspects of how they do business, though, I'm going to try to not bash UNC too much. It's a decent school, in terms of reputation; and Charlotte and Raleigh are two cities where I could see myself practicing. And breaks spent along the Outer Banks would not be terrible. Still, it's true, I'm not as excited about UNC as I was before.

And it doesn't get much better once you're accepted. I know my position is favorable to not knowing, but UNC has all but forgotten about me. We got two emails telling us about the programs and that has been it. No t-shirts, no bumper stickers, nothing even remotely cool like that. I haven't heard one word about when we can begin to hear about scholarships -- except that they won't match or negotiate and that very few people (URM's
) get them.
I am really pumped about UNC and will most likely be going, but even I have lost excitement about it.

Well, here's one URM who's been accepted and has heard diddly-squat about anything financially related. So I'm in the same boat as you.

What up, Sean? This is hcr. Hang in there. It was an encouraging wait list letter, for what it's worth.seanbickford wrote:What time was your email sent?

I'd cosign this. Encouraging, yes. But still frustrating.tekisui wrote:What up, Sean? This is hcr. Hang in there. It was an encouraging wait list letter, for what it's worth.seanbickford wrote:What time was your email sent?

Re: University of North Carolina 2013
It would be so frustrating to get waitlisted. To wait all this time and then... wait some more, please. Still, it's better than a rejection. Personally, I'm scared as shit; if they are going to waitlist someone like tekisui, I give myself low odds.
Here's hoping for (eventual) acceptance letters.

P.S. As frustrating as the wait has been, I'm more than happy to wait if it means that UNC is giving my application the attention it deserves.
That's a big "if" though.

I am making the same decision(WL at Emory so a little easier) but I think they are about the same league of school..IMO UNC is a better school than it's ranking.

FYI for all those waiting: one of my friend just texted me and told me that he was waitlisted around 11:00pm. He's an in-state, non-URM with numbers slightly below the medians.
I guess they are slowly churning out decisions....

What's up with some people getting waitlist emails and others getting waitlist snail mail???
I was waitlisted on 3-29 through snail mail. Seems like others are getting emails?

Waitlisted by email at around 10:20 last night. In state, senior at Carolina, 164 and 3.5. Now I have no idea what to do - just sent my deposit to Wake Forest yesterday. Guess I'll ride out the waitlist - this is tough!
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
