Re: Wake Forest 2010
Are there students at WF who plan on practicing outside of NC? Is the WF degree portable if we network aggressively in the major cities?
I have no idea where I want to practice, but I like the WF community's tight-knit feel. It would be a great place to study the law. I just don't know if I would stick around in NC.

Quite a few work outside of NC. Check out http://law.wfu.edu/career/stats/ and http://officialguide.lsac.org/SearchRes ... BA5885.pdf. They both give an idea of where people end up.prelaw10 wrote:Are there students at WF who plan on practicing outside of NC? Is the WF degree portable if we network aggressively in the major cities?

As for Winston-Salem itself, I'd say it's a small city. I grew up in a small town (a few thousand people) and it is definitely not a small town. I had to drive at least 45 minutes to get to the closest mall where I grew up. W-S has one of the largest malls in the Southeast, according to Wake, and is about 10-15 minutes from the University.
I've also lived in DC for many years. While W-S doesn't have as much to offer as places like DC, it still has a lot. I've been doing a lot of searching to see what is in the area and I can't really find anything that I need that's not within 10-15 minute drive. When I lived in DC, it wasn't unusual to drive at least 30 minutes to do something (and that wasn't accounting for traffic). Even taking the metro, it wasn't unusual to take 20-30 minutes to get somewhere.
I attended undergrad at Syracuse and W-S reminds me a lot of Syracuse. There's a lot there, you just might have to drive a bit away from campus to find it. If that's a problem for you, than don't go to Wake. Even UNC requires some amount of driving/taking the bus to get to certain places. It all comes down to what is important to you.
(Sorry if this came off a bit ranty. I don't mean it that way.)

Does anyone know if Wake reimburses for travel to ASW events?

Re: Wake Forest 2010
Yes! DC is VERY overrated as a city. Everything is spread out, parking is tough, and traffic is worse. Basically, going out for an evening always includes 20-30 minute travel time (each way). If you do happen to live within walking distance of a popular scene: 1) you are paying a ton of rent, and 2) you will get bored of those same few bars and will end up traveling 20-30 minutes to other areas within a month of moving there.tstyler98 wrote:prelaw10 wrote:

Now, what you do get is the benefit of several cities, their clubs/bars, and their somewhat cultural differences within the 30 minute radius (DC, MD and VA).
Bottom line, DC should not be mentioned in the same sentence with NY and Chicago. W-S has similar things to offer as DC, just on a significantly smaller scale.

Re: Wake Forest 2010
So I got an e-mail from Wake a few minutes ago telling me I had been awarded a $30k/year scholly as long as I stay within the top 2/3 of the class. Obviously I was very happy to get this...until three minutes later Wake sent me another message saying I had received the scholarship e-mail by accident and that I didn't actually get it.
Do they realize it's March 1, not April 1?
Thanks, guys.

Wake just sent me a scholarship e-mail saying I got a scholly worth 90k total.... Then they sent me an e-mail minutes later saying it was an error and that they apologized.... Wow, Wake...

Got that same email about the 90k scholarship. 4 minutes later another email saying that the award email I received was sent in error. That's what happens when you send our form mass emails instead of individual messages.

The same thing just happened to me! I thought it was a little crazy to get such an awesome scholarship, my numbers aren't high enough for that. I just thought I was special
Kind of embarrassing, for Wake and myself haha. I figured it was a good time to ask if I was getting anything...

Hahaha, yup, I got the same e-mail. First, last-year's UNC fake admission fiasco, and now Wake sending out accidental scholarships. Yikes.

I received it also... I wonder if everyone without an existing scholarship got it...
I have to admit, I went from the highest high to a very low place in a flash. My wife was speechless after each email.

Since Wake is up in my top choices it def made me quite excited than brought me down just as quick. And here I was thinking my visit had a positive impact.....

Yep..same happened to me, and to think, I ALMOST purchased my non-refundable plane ticket to go down there lol
Edit: Just received a REAL 11k/ year scholly from OSU, I think that about seals the deal for me.

Just got the email too. Come on wake, you're supposed to be better than unc!
Soooo not impressed with wake right now. It's really not that hard to use email.

But I'm wondering why we all got varying $ amounts? Mine was only for 30k.

I just received a scholarship email from OSU as well. Maybe they've sensed our disillusion with Wake and are pouncing on their admits.dhatfie1 wrote:Yep..same happened to me, and to think, I ALMOST purchased my non-refundable plane ticket to go down there lol

lml09 - 30k a year, right? That's what I think everyone got.

Re: Wake Forest 2010
It was probably 30k per year. That's what mine was. Unless I'm wrong. It was, in fact, your e-mail and not mine, so I can't say for sure lol.lml09 wrote:Just got the email too. Come on wake, you're supposed to be better than unc!
