What's the deal with the big merit scholarship? I got my app in the day before that deadline and didn't really take as long as I should have on those questions.... how many do they give out?

Speaking of, they said those were being released sometime in Feb. Anyone hear anything yet?

WL'd. Decision sent 2/3, application submitted early November, and I did have an interview, which seemed to go well. My 166 LSAT is obviously a touch low for Vanderbilt, but I am now going to do a little LOI writing research and draft one over the weekend.

Does anyone know if the Law Scholars Merit Awards are reviewed separately? I don't know if that would hold applications up or not.

I don't have any way of knowing, but I would guess that they are since my turnaround time was really quick, and I haven't heard anything about scholarships. They weren't separate, but I can see them deciding on accept/reject/WL and then throwing the accepts that applied for the merit scholarship into a particular pile for later review. or something. Or maybe they just don't notify people who don't get them.

So basically I am of no help.

They said the decisions are coming out in mid through end feb.

There isn't a separate application for their normal, run of the mill, merit scholarships is there?

No, I don't think so. My status checker email says all students are automatically considered for those.

The way I understand it there is also an interview process? Just from reading LSN, it seems as though those who were offered the scholarship at some point spoke on the phone with admissions people.

I'm gonna wait until I get a scholarship decision to decide. I don't want to go massively in debt, so I don't want to fall in love with the place unless there's an actual possibility of me going.

That's probably a smart idea. I'm really hoping that Vanderbilt throws some money my way. As much as I love Vandy, paying full price will be a hard pill to swallow.

Seems like most of the big ones went to the incredible numbers... with some sizable amounts going to some fairly "low" numbers.

1L here.. I can answer a few questions.. short and to the point:

All admits are considered for merit aid, whether you submitted the Law Scholars app or not. There is a separate review process for the Law Scholars awards. I believe that it is under way right now. Expect 5-6 Law Scholars merit awards (full + stipend). I have no idea when you will hear about scholarships, though (other than what admissions has told you).

My numbers are auto-reject (with no interview or why Vandy essay) and I've been complete for over two months, so I was starting to convince myself that lasting this long without a ding was a good sign. Then I looked at LSN, and it seems that, with one exception, they haven't dinged anyone with a complete date later than November (scroll down a bit to see all the rejections):
