Hi! Cake did a great job with these questions. I'll add just a few things.

1. What is parking like; where is it, how expensive, etc? I'm thinking of getting one pass and sharing with the roomies to get to school on days when it's raining or something ..?

Like cake said, north deck (N06) is the best choice if you want to park on campus. Super close to the law school. It's well lit, and in the two years I've parked there, I haven't seen anything even remotely sketchy. As mentioned, it's $40/mo, and you can get a pass for either the academic year or an entire calendar year. Usually it's really easy to find a space, but if you get there a bit later in the morning, you might have to spend some time driving up to the top. I've always been able to find a space though--no worries about it filling up.

If you only want to park on campus on rainy days, you can look into something called an ATP pass. Here's some info from the parking website:

What is the Alternative Transportation Program (ATP)?

Answer: As a way to reduce the demand for parking on campus, UGA Parking Services is offering parking incentives for those who choose to ride The Bus, car pool, bike, walk or ride a motorcycle, scooter/moped as their primary means of transportation. Parking Services will issue a number of passes per year; depending on the method of transportation used, (distributed up to 2 per month) for those days when their transportation needs are beyond their normal methods.

Who is eligible to use the Alternative Transportation Program (ATP)?

Answer: Any student or employee who lives off campus and do not bring a standard vehicle to UGA. Additionally, anyone that drives a motorcycle, moped, or scooter and registers with Parking Services are also eligible for ATP.

How often can I use my ATP pass?

Answer: Parking Services has approved the following uses of ATP passes per method of alternative transportation per year (distributed 1 or 2 uses per month). Uses are non-cumulative.

Biking, Busing, and Walking - up to 22 days of fee-free parking in designated locations per year (distributed 2 uses per month).
Car Pool - 11 days of fee-free parking in designated locations per year (distributed 1 use per month).
Motorcycles, Moped/Scooters (as primary source) - up to 11 days of fee-free parking in designated locations (distributed 1 use per month).

2. Do you know anyone planning or thinking about the Business Law and Ethics focus? What do you think about specializing in that way, helpful, hurtful, neither?

Don't know anybody either.

3. I know you said you have a summer gig lined up, what is the general consensus around school? Do most people have summer employment? Are people getting paid? Was it fairly easy to come by or did people have to really pull strings and use personal connections?

Most people have jobs. Towards the end of the year when we had parties with professors, and they asked us where we were working, the vast majority of people had really interesting things lined up. Some people are paid--hard to say how many. Of my two closest law school friends who have paying jobs, one used personal connections and the other sent out applications. I used personal connections.

4. Are you IS or OOS? If you're OOS (or know anyone who is) how has the process of gaining IS residency for tuition purposes gone? Anyone having serious trouble?

I'm in state, as are all of my close friends, so I'm not sure about this one.

5. Have you dealt much with the Career Services Office? Are they helpful, how would you characterize them?

I've actually been frustrated several times by Career Services. I scheduled two appointments with them. For the first appointment, the woman didn't even show up, and for the second, she was in a long meeting, yet nobody bothered to tell me ahead of time. When I finally got in to see someone, she just helped me go over my resume (which is all I asked of her). I got my job through my own contacts, so I can't really shed any light on how helpful they actually are for that sort of thing.

6. Do you know anyone who is planning on working abroad this summer (Global Internship Program)? Is this difficult to gain access to? Are there grade requirements?

I know quite a few people who are working abroad, and it didn't seem particularly difficult to do.

My biggest peeve so far at UGA is the schedule, with class all day, separated by one-hour breaks. How does that actually end up working out? Does it at least allow enough time to do your digging for legal research during the day and avoid staying on campus all evening? If I want to keep my time on campus to a minimum, what is the least I can expect to get away with? (without my performance suffering)

thanks
The one hour breaks are what you make of them. It's very tempting to sit in the main portion of the library and have fun with your classmates, but I was able to get a decent amount of work done if I used them well.

As far as the amount of time the legal research stuff takes, that portion of my life has kind of blended together. It's hard to remember. :| But you definitely won't need to stay all evening if you work efficiently.

I sure am going to miss what I think I will be missing.

Anyway, Radlaw's 'Georgia Law' sticker is up for grabs.

Withdrew today as well. Very difficult decision as I feel like I'm blowing away career opportunities in ATL. Oh well I hope my 1L tuition equalization scholy goes to someone who needs it.

Does the Dean Rusk Center give you options of positions available or do you have to figure out where you want to go and what you want to do on your own?

Feel free to PM me if you don't want to out yourself.
I'm working for the AG of Guyana. So far, our (there are three of us, all from UGA) only project has been to research a criminal issue for the Deputy SG, but we have only just started. The Dean Rusk Center will let you choose from a list of places they have used in the past, but all students welcome to propose their own plan, so long as the student is willing to do the additional legwork. I don't think that option is used very often, though, since there are many great opportunities already available through the regular GIP system. Also, internet down here is really spotty, so don't get upset if I don't respond to further questions until August ;)

Is there any more information on the pre-orientation week that has been mentioned here and there? I understand it went on last year but haven't heard any new info on here or the UGA website. I'll be emailing the school of course but wonder if anyone heard anything interesting about it.

I called and they said that info. would be released after the June 15 2nd deposit deadline. Apparently it's about 2 weeks long, which would place it starting near the end of July or the very beginning of August.

If you're sure you're going to UGA, post in this thread http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 25&t=83123 to beef up the UGA list.

On the early start program...

I dropped by the law school today to pay my deposit and they gave me some details.

It's a two week program, and there is no additional cost to attend, there are no grades, and all materials are provided by the law school. It is an optional "warm-up" session for students are nervous about the socratic method, want to know what to pull from a case, etc, etc.

They said the law school will be sending out literature on the early start program after the June 15th deposit deadline.

Hope this helps!

sure do, do you think they have pretty much all the seats filled or will they let some people on the wait list in? I've got a buddy who's right on the fringe as far as his numbers go and i'd like to see him at UGA next year

The impression I got when I was there was that they are just praying that not everyone sends in their second deposit. They accepted a lot of people and were surprised when so many people sent in the first deposit. Doesn't look like they will be digging too deeply into the waitlist this year unfortunately.

that blows; have they had that problem in the past? do you think they just accept a class of 270 or so and make another section?

Doubt it because they won't have the need.

Having a $50 dollar first deposit was a mistake on their part because a lot of people will just throw the money away to delay their decision a little longer. Even $250 second deposit won't break the bank. They'll probably see their second deposit numbers go way down. Even then, I'd bet they still have to look at LSAC's published double deposit list and ask a few people what the fuck they are doing.
