Long time lurker, but thought I would update you all on my experience. Was wait-listed two weeks ago, and had an in person interview recently after work. The alumni I interviewed with was very nice, and seemed more focused on my interest in Cornell as opposed to my qualifications. I think fit was definitely something she was trying to gauge.

She mentioned that this interview program is a pilot program, that they are doing it to address the issue of the wait-list not being ranked or tiered at all. The interview went very well (in my opinion), but was fairly short. She told me to expect to hear back soon on a final decision, likely in a week or two. She also emphasized that people who get off the wait-list definitely still have a fair shot at scholarships.

Sent in my LOCI a few days ago. I will let you guys know any further updates. LSAT = 75%, GPA < 25%.

I am not certain. If I had to guess, it might be because I live in a major metropolitan area, where there are a large number of Cornell alumni presumably. Maybe it had to do something with the interviewer? She mentioned that she had interviewed several people before me as well. Could be a rolling thing... I don't know.

I interviewed 1/30 and it still says "interview requested". I wouldn't worry about it- as long as you got the Kira confirmation it was submitted you're fine.

I interviewed 1/28, status checker still says interview requested but the date under changed to 1/30 and at the top it says "thank you for completing your interview, blah blah blah". It may just take a day or so to change.

It's going to stay at interview requested with just a date change right before your response. When mine changed I got the call a couple hours later.

I just did some statistical analysis on Cornell's admissions changes over the last two years. It seems that they are prioritizing GPA over LSAT. I used LSN from this year up to today and 2014-2015 (2 years ago) up to 2/4/15 to avoid any differences due to the dates of acceptances. I think their strategy is to boost their GPA medians without reducing their LSAT medians. But, so far, they've accepted fewer students given that LSN is an accurate representation of overall acceptances. This may be more indicative of a slow cycle more than anything.

2014-2015: Avg GPA: 3.78, Avg LSAT: 169.3, n=118
2016-2017: Avg GPA: 3.842, Avg LSAT: 168.5, n=85

As a splitter, that's so lame.

Good LSATs become rarer --> schools care less about the increasingly rare few who distinguish themselves unless they also have a great GPA.

eh, I got waitlisted with median lsat and GPA above 75th. I think they're just being dicks

1. Do you guys think it would be better to visit before or after we get to do the in-person interview? Since I would probably want to talk with admissions, would it make sense to wait until after the interview, or would doing it beforehand show interest? Or does it completely not matter?

2. There's no info on the website about visiting, so I would have to call and ask. Who should I call? Anyone know if I would be able to actually meet with admissions/sit in on a class/tour?

Essentially, I'm trying to figure out how to utilize a visit to best increase my chances.

1. Probably after. You won't know what effects, if any, the interview will have until it happens. Do the interview, wait a week or two to see if anything happens, and if still nothing, then do the visit. This also gives you another touchpoint post-interview that will help you demonstrate continued interest, which will become increasingly important as the cycle progresses, if they don't pull from reserve early.

2. Call the general admissions number, or email the general admissions email and they'll set it up for you. No harm in asking if those things are possible to set up, and I imagine they are. If I remember correctly, they are generally receptive to meeting with students, doing tours/class sit-in's etc.

thanks for the response! what do you think about the LOCI--send it before or after the interview?

Finished my online interview recently. I actually really enjoyed the format and having the opportunity to respond to some substantive essay questions. The more fluffy interview questions with other schools are nice, but I liked the high stakes feeling of a timed essay response.
