Sorry; I didn't know Chicago practiced YP...at least you have some halfway decent back-up schools!

They're not really known to practice YP. Usually they accept you and give you a ruby if you have HYS numbers.kathj06 wrote:Sorry; I didn't know Chicago practiced YP...at least you have some halfway decent back-up schools!

There is precedent that they waitlisted people with both above 75 percentile numbers and HYS acceptance.lawschool22 wrote:They're not really known to practice YP. They don't do YP. They just have a very small class size, so of course they are going to have to turn away some highly qualified applicants. Once you're above both medians they're going to start comparing you on other things, resume, interview, etc. They don't have that many spots to fill, so they can afford to be choosier with the high numbers people than a place like HLS, which has a ton of seats to fill.

How would they know unless you blurted it out in the interview?bbkk wrote:Not just HYS numbers.crazyrobin wrote:

UR3 1/17, no interview. I survived yesterday's waitlist wave but the lack of interview makes me think that I'll probably be receiving a WL or rejection very soon. Anyone else in the same boat?

Not sure. Was wondering about it too. Is there a way they can find out?metroidbum wrote:How would they know unless you blurted it out in the interview?bbkk wrote:Not just HYS numbers.crazyrobin wrote:

Re: Chicago c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014)
Look:

Credit to cotiger for these http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 2&t=216378. They are matrices for acceptances only, a waitlist is counted as a denial.
Look at UVA, which does practice YP. Notice how as soon as you cross their median LSAT, your chances of outright acceptance actually drop dramatically. Same with GPA, once you cross 75th, your chances drop for every LSAT score.
Compare that to Chicago, as your GPA increases, so do your chances for every LSAT (except for the 1st category, but that's likely do to extremely small sample size for that category). Also, look at the LSAT rows, as your LSAT increases, so to do your chances generally. Minor fluctuations will be due to sample variation, but just look at it compared to UVA and you'll see the difference.
Maybe there is some tiny amount of YP for a select few applicants (like, maybe somehow they knew someone got into Yale? idk), but it's not on a systematic scale like it is at UVA. Certainly not enough to say that if you have HYS numbers and you got WL'd at Chicago that you likely got YP'd.

Totally not trying to fight with you or call you out specifically in any way. Like I said, each situation is definitely unique. I just want to send out the general message that for the most part, UChi is not YPing people. You certainly could have been YP'd since I don't know your specific situation.crazyrobin wrote:OK, lawschool22, I am not going to fight you.

Don't worry, we weren't debating. crazyrobin could have totally been YP'd. I was just saying that for most people that's likely not what's going on.kathj06 wrote:Oops-- didn't mean to start a debate! Really sorry to hear that, cr

Also, this makes me extremely nervous about my own prospects at Chicago.
