Scholarship offer just got in! I'm pleased with the amount.
In the letter, it says that Michigan does not compete with other schools' scholarship offers and basically says it will not raise the amount. Has this always been their policy? I thought Michigan was known to compete with other scholarships.

Probably can't hurt to try negotiations, even if they don't budge. Also, how were you notified of scholarship?aldiddy wrote:Scholarship offer just got in! I'm pleased with the amount.

That's true, but I'm less concerned about the negotiations hurting than I am about them not giving more money lol.
I was notified via snail mail. I haven't checked the admitted students' website yet but I imagine it shows the scholarship offer there as well.

Lavitz wrote:That's just posturing. They always say that for all the Dean's Scholarships, but last cycle they definitely increased their offers after negotiations.kershka wrote:Yeah, actually, this is apparently false or at least is is for me. My official letter (I received a decent sized Dean's Scholarship) just arrived and specifically said that they would not compete with any other schools' aid packages and further that I no longer qualified for any need-based aid. Not sure if they're just posturing or if they've changed the policy this year.
I agree though, Michigan1442, I was surprised by my offer too considering I am significantly above both 75ths and I have ties to the school/state (though, of course, I was also delighted to be admitted and offered any type of aid). I'll probably try and see if I can raise that amount at all, but the tone of the letter was discouraging. Maybe I'm just a fluke though?
This discussion might be more apt in the Admitted Students thread, however, even if it is fairly dead right now.
Also, I think you're more likely to succeed in negotiating if you approach them with a higher offer from any T-14 as opposed to an equal or lesser amount from a higher-ranked school. Just something I noticed from an admittedly small sample size of anecdotes last cycle.

Complete since 26 Sep. Although I figure myself as a 10-20% chance at best, it'd be great to see that admit after 3.5 months.mylifeis24 wrote:2 months and still just complete. All I want is to log on and see "admit".

Also admitted!
Submitted early November, status checker before thanksgiving. Wrote a "why Mich." GPA and LSAT above the 75ths.

Re: Michigan Applicants C/O 2017 (Applicants 2013-2014)
This post is going to sound incredibly entitled and bratty so please forgive me..........I don't mean to come off that way but here goes:
In terms of stats, I'm above both 75%'s (GPA and LSAT), and I've been accepted to a few schools that are ranked higher than Michigan. I normally wouldn't sweat this stuff but, as with everyone else, money is a big deal and I'm interested in a potential scholarship.
I've been complete since early November and nothing's changed. I don't have anything damning in my application -- no disciplinary things, etc. -- as I said, I've been accepted to other top schools, and if I had anything that would preclude me from getting into Michigan, I'm sure it would have precluded me from getting into those schools as well.
So....obviously you guys can't answer this question and again, I don't mean to come off as a "humble brag" or a brat -- but is there a possibility that there's some sort of error? There's obviously no way I can tactfully inquire about this, right?
