Oh, I got it, I was just hoping (and I assume leeronalda was too?) that this was their "email hour" including WELCOME TO THE CLASS OF 2014 ohpleasepleaseplease. Sadly, despite refreshing repeatedly, I've had no joy beyond the aforementioned sickening reminder that I need to get my FAFSA stuff in order. Re: Berkeley 2011 applicants
Just thought this was interesting, and wanted to share. Old data (class of 2012 I think).
1. Stanford University 170
2. University of Chicago 191
3. Cornell University 205
4. Yale University 214
5. Duke University 228
6. University of Pennsylvania 255
7. Northwestern University 271
8. University of California – Berkeley 292
9. University of Virginia 368
10. University of Michigan 371
11. Columbia University 397
12. New York University 450
13. Georgetown University 463
14. Harvard University 559
So it looks like B is right around the middle of the T-14 in terms of class size.
Having a fairly small class size is a big plus for me, so I decided to order it from smallest to biggest class sizes:Law Schools Ranked by Median LSAT and GPA (class size also listed)
Top 14

I like small class too. That's something that bothers me about HCNVG. I really like the 40% faculty increase - that really means a lot to me.

4 or 5 sections? I am more interested in the classes after 1L. So when I visit schools that's what I will focus on. I plan to do a lot of small classes, clinics and classes at other schools. I enjoy my 15-person classesKnock wrote:Me too. ~292 doesn't seem too bad.r6_philly wrote:I like small class too. That's something that bothers me about HCNVG. It's kind of funny we have 5 months to think about this without really any real feel for the school.

My app was sent 11/21, complete and UR 11/22, and no movement since... I see people on LSN with similar numbers and dates as me who already have their decision. am I just destined to wait longer or should I email/call them?

I have this feelings someone in the admissions office presses send on that fafsa email and just laughs as we all collectively freak out. The power they hold is sort of hilarious.

Re: Berkeley 2011 applicants
This may not be the forum for this topic but something in that email today got me thinking: Can someone explain the deal with filling out parent's info for financial aid? My parents are not going to be financially contributing at all and just because I am under 30 I am required to provide their info? If I put their info I will obviously be less eligible for need-based aid, which is what I need since I will be paying for this all myself. It doesn't make any sense to me that it is assumed that just because you are a certain age your parents are going to being paying the bills.

You're required to if they claimed you as a dependent, I think.cmk wrote:This may not be the forum for this topic but something in that email today got me thinking: Can someone explain the deal with filling out parent's info for financial aid? Re: Berkeley 2011 applicants
I don't think it makes any difference, but isn't Georgetown bumping up its FT class size and decreasing its PT class size? I only point this out because "463" could be misleading if next year it could be over 500.Knock wrote:Just thought this was interesting, and wanted to share. Old data (class of 2012 I think).

1L class is divided into 9 mods (small section class) and 3 mods in a supermod for the other 1L classes. LRW is 12 sections (and made up of roughly equal numbers from each mod within the supermod).r6_philly wrote:4 or 5 sections? I am more interested in the classes after 1L. Also remember, Boalt allows you to take an elective (or two) in 1L spring.
To the poster concerned about class size and course diversity-- I doubt you'll find that a problem here. Not only do we have the varied offerings by the (still growing) faculty, we also get some great once in a lifetime opportunities from some adjuncts. E.g.: Next semester, Chief Judge Vaughan Walker (N.D. Cal.) of overturning Prop-8 fame is teaching a strategic decision-making in litigation class! (still ticked it conflicted with two other classes I REALLY wanted to take)

Re: Berkeley 2011 applicants
Apparently law school is goofy when it comes to FAFSA. I'm really not totally sure how it works, but I've heard that depending on how far out of undergraduate you are, they calculate a % of your parents income whether they will be contributing to your tuition or not. If you're right out of undergrad it's 100%, 2 years our it's 80%, etc. I've heard lots of complaints from current law schools about this.cmk wrote:This may not be the forum for this topic but something in that email today got me thinking: Can someone explain the deal with filling out parent's info for financial aid? Re: Berkeley 2011 applicants
Berkeley's email got me thinking... are FAFSA applications a big deal in terms of time and effort involved? Is it comparable to the law school application process itself? I haven't done it since I was applying for undergrad, and then it was more of my parents' thing, bless their hearts. I am not excited about the prospect of more paperwork (though of course I AM excited about the project of financial aid, so I will suck it up).

It's simple as long as you have your parents' appropriate tax forms, as well as yours.Excellence = a Habit wrote:Berkeley's email got me thinking... are FAFSA applications a big deal in terms of time and effort involved? You pretty much just enter the info from the W-2s (or 1099s), plus any other taxes your parents may have filed.
