It's my understanding that the update is automatic every day, and simply displays the status for that day. So if they made a decision, it would appear at 6 am the next day. So today's update was automatic.

This is mostly true, but only when they made decisions the previous day or at least looked at something. On the 21st or 22nd the date didn't change.ChuckBass wrote:It's my understanding that the update is automatic every day, and simply displays the status for that day. So, if one applied but isn't in yet, does that mean Darrow scholarship is out of the question?

I wouldn't say that. Interviews are for another few weeks, so if you only recently applied, they might still offer a Darrow.linkx13 wrote:So, if one applied but isn't in yet, does that mean Darrow scholarship is out of the question?

There have been Darrow invites after the new year in the past. So not out of the question.linkx13 wrote:So, if one applied but isn't in yet, does that mean Darrow scholarship is out of the question?

Anyone else not been shown any scholly love yet? I am feeling disheartened. My heart feels dissed and distended.

From my understanding most of the awards will go out January onwards. I am assuming that the people that got their schollies already either applied super early or have really strong numbersPower_of_Facing wrote:Anyone else not been shown any scholly love yet? From what I've heard it has just been Darrow invitations and Dean's scholarships so far. Should hear back in February for the rest of us.

I hope this doesn't come off as sounding ungrateful, but is there any chance that the Dean's scholarships could be increased at some point? Or maybe that additional aid be offered in Feb? I received a Dean's scholarship, albeit a very small one...I am pretty sure it is the smallest scholarship Michigan has. I am excited to be accepted and especially to have been offered something, but I was expecting more with my numbers

You can always negotiate with them assuming you getting higher offers elsewhere.Michigan1442 wrote:I hope this doesn't come off as sounding ungrateful, but is there any chance that the Dean's scholarships could be increased at some point? Nope. I received mine two and a half weeks after I submitted, and Thanksgiving was in that time period. I'd expect to get it after the New Year if I were you.angels2fly wrote:app received email dec 16th still no status checker, is this an abnormal amount of time even with the holidays?

Yeah, actually, this is apparently false or at least is is for me. My official letter (I received a decent sized Dean's Scholarship) just arrived and specifically said that they would not compete with any other schools' aid packages and further that I no longer qualified for any need-based aid. Not sure if they're just posturing or if they've changed the policy this year.lawschool22 wrote:You can always negotiate with them assuming you getting higher offers elsewhere.Michigan1442 wrote:I hope this doesn't come off as sounding ungrateful, but is there any chance that the Dean's scholarships could be increased at some point? I agree though, Michigan1442, I was surprised by my offer too considering I am significantly above both 75ths and I have ties to the school/state (though, of course, I was also delighted to be admitted and offered any type of aid). I'll probably try and see if I can raise that amount at all, but the tone of the letter was discouraging. Maybe I'm just a fluke though?

This discussion might be more apt in the Admitted Students thread, however, even if it is fairly dead right now.

Let's move the scholarship talk over there so it's all in one place.kershka wrote:

Relavent part:
So, you probably won't have luck negotiating upwards. But a polite attempt won't hurt.Which brings me to my story of yesterday. We got a call from an admitted student who had already received a merit scholarship from us. The caller wanted us to increase his award because he had received larger awards from other law schools. Now, it is our policy, stated in the scholarship award letters, not to alter scholarship awards once they have been made, but the receptionist quite correctly advised him to email the office with the information about the other awards. However unlikely it may be that we’ll alter our stated policy, she knows that we always want to be able to consider individual circumstances. He hung up in anger at that advice, though—and then emailed to complain that the receptionist had been most unhelpful for not having immediately forwarded the call to me. I reiterated the advice: please do send us the information requested. His behavior made me highly dubious, yet knowing how anxiety-producing the issues of money can be made me loath to assume the worst; maybe, I thought, he had some extraordinary circumstances. His response was fairly peremptory — a list of schools and awards, none of which were much in excess of what we had already given him.

That's just posturing. They always say that for all the Dean's Scholarships, but last cycle they definitely increased their offers after negotiations.kershka wrote:Yeah, actually, this is apparently false or at least is is for me. Also, I think you're more likely to succeed in negotiating if you approach them with a higher offer from any T-14 as opposed to an equal or lesser amount from a higher-ranked school. Just something I noticed from an admittedly small sample size of anecdotes last cycle.

Thanks Lavitz and midwest17, that was very helpful!
I guess I'll see what my other aid packages look like before giving up hope.
