Re: UIUC 2015
It's official, just put in my seat deposit, I'll be attending Illinois this fall. I look forward to meeting many of you!
I wasn't able to visit the school, am I in for a surprise? When it comes to cities/campuses I'm not too hard to please(and based on the pictures I've seen of campus it seems nice), and I could care less if it gets cold.

Mine was quite easy, bumped from a paltry nothing to nearly 50%nshapkar wrote:mattviphky wrote:what are your numbers? I feel it has something to do with my 164/3.05.nshapkar wrote:mattviphky wrote:I love all these success stories. I submitted 2 emails, no success
Same here.
3.3 GPA, based on what I've seen from other successful negotiation stories, they're more interested in higher LSAT scores than GPA.

It's perfectly fine. A typical college town and no, it doesn't get particularly cold.nshapkar wrote:It's official, just put in my seat deposit, I'll be attending Illinois this fall. I look forward to meeting many of you!

Yeah I wasn't too worried about not visiting simply because I want to get the hell out of Phoenix as soon as possible.

Yeah, no worries. It won't blow you away but it doesn't sound like you'll be disappointed, either. Coming from Phoenix, Champaign's relatively mild winters might be a little tough....but not too bad!

Re: UIUC 2015
So is there any sense riding out this WL? By that, I mean, it seems my numbers were good enough for a lot of auto-admits according to LSN, but if C&F is what's put me on the WL, am I more or less "untouchable" for UIUC? Is it weird to call and ask if this is the case?

Can't believe it. Very disappointed.
Mine is the lone yellow dot in the sea of green hovering around 164/3.7 on LSN.
I drove to UIUC from Kansas last week, which is not a short drive at all, to meet with them and get a tour. I was expecting to get in off the hold, especially considering my numbers relative to others' on LSN. When I met with them, they said that C and F was an issue with me (no felonies or drug charges or anything like that). I explained myself and she told me to send a LOCI addressing that to the rest of the admissions council, which I did.
Like I said, I really can't believe it. Very disappointing. I really wanted to go there.

They may not directly answer you, but it doesn't hurt to ask.EMAW12 wrote:So is there any sense riding out this WL? Seat deposit is in. When are we having the TLS get together in Champaign?

I negotiated with a not so high LSAT and high GPA to 75% (non URM). Stats are at LSN: lifeinpencilnshapkar wrote:

Your 164 is probably above the median this year for Illinois... being above both medians gave you an excellent negotiating position. Good job.northside wrote:I negotiated with a not so high LSAT and high GPA to 75% (non URM). Stats are at LSN: lifeinpencilnshapkar wrote:

Can anyone guess as to what the medians this year will be? Will our class be dolts compared to those before us?

I can't imagine it'll be worse than the current 1L class. At least, I'm hoping it's not!

In case you guys haven't seen this yet, the ABA has released some really detailed employment stats for the Class of 2010:
http://placementsummary.abaquestionnaire.org/home.aspx
This is the one of the classes hit the absolute hardest by the recession so I don't think it's nearly this bad now, but very interesting to see how many people actually got legal jobs out of Illinois that year.

Yeah it could be a lot worse. I think Illinois is definitely a step above "peer" schools like Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin, etc.

How hard was the class of 2010 hit? I know the class of 2011 was killed, but how much worse were they than 2010?

I think it's safe to assume that all the people at the 250 or greater firms are getting paid at or close to market. After that, salary drops quickly.diegoforlan10 wrote:I wish they would have included some salary information.thatjuanguy wrote:Ludovico Technique wrote:In case you guys haven't seen this yet, the ABA has released some really detailed employment stats for the Class of 2010:

Re: UIUC 2015
As far as the biglaw numbers, those should be relatively unaffected because OCI was already over before the recession really hit. But the placement for people who missed/didn't want biglaw is probably a lot lower than it was in years past. Class of 11 is likely worse all around, '12 a little better and '13 I think will end up a little better than that.mattviphky wrote:How hard was the class of 2010 hit?
