Re: Minnesota 2011
I'm not really sure if you should send them the email, although I certainly understand why you'd want to. On a different note, I'm almost positive you can appeal Minnesota's decision if you're motivated enough to.

I think you are reading into this too much. A non auto ding means very little. You can always ask to speak with an admissions counselor or something to that effect but I wouldn't ask "What made my file a non auto ding ?"
Do you really want the answer that you have a decent/good application but UMN has to adhere to LSAT/GPA numbers because of USNWR rankings ? I wouldn't want to....

With a 3.4 GPA & a 159 LSAT, non-URM (I assume), it seems as if you received fair consideration. In my opinion, an email seeking the reasoning behind Minnesota's decision would be a touch tacky & might raise a maturity issue. If still curious with your sub-par numbers, then reapply next year with a higher LSAT score.

Kind of hard for me to get a good read on this. My sense is that adcomms are pretty busy this time of year and are kind of wary of involving themselves in giving feedback on specific applications. I mean, putting myself in the mindset of a reviewer, I would probably think the kind of questions you have are more appropriate to ask a pre-law advisor.salvage wrote:Anybody?salvage wrote:So I was denied admission, after lingering under review for a while. My stats were below both medians so I'm not surprised, although I made it clear that UMN was my first choice by far. Anyway, I'm curious to know if the following would be completely tactless - I would like to email the admissions office to inquire as to what exactly made my application not an immediate auto-ding. In other words, could they speak to anything specific in my application that they liked. Is sending this email uncouth? The way I feel, I paid $75 for the privilege of them reviewing my file, the least they could do is give me some insight.
