I know people at Vandy and they complain that a lot of professors give quizzes throughout the semester that causes stress because it adds constant gamesmanship to the law school process. If 20% of your grade is based on quizzes or a midterm, that performance can be the difference in letter grades.

I'd given up on vandy, but finally heard back and got rejected.

It's because of new ABA guidelines. Vandy is in the crop of schools that gets the special fun of testing them out because they're up for reaccredidation.Justtrying2help wrote:I know people at Vandy and they complain that a lot of professors give quizzes throughout the semester that causes stress because it adds constant gamesmanship to the law school process. I wasn't really involved in it and won't do the research but there was a lot of talk last year about implementing these new, vague guidelines about providing "substantive continuous feedback" or whatever. Essentially, they seem to be pushing law schools to do what every their program does and give you actual feedback throughout the semester.
My 1L year (way before these guidelines) some professors attempted ungraded assignments in the middle of the semester and, surprise, we turned in shit work and it was a waste of everyone's time.

For the record, I'm still waiting. Hoping that perhaps I'll hear back this week, but I'm not particularly hopeful...
Did you get an email saying "Thank you for your email and your interest in Vanderbilt Law School. We have included this information in your file"? If you didn't, I would call tomorrow to inquire if they received your letter.

Finally heard something yesterday. I was accepted with 35,000 a year. I'm hoping to make a decision by Friday, but at this point I am so stuck... but either way this shows that there is movement, so hopefully you all hear something soon!

Thanks for the update. Someone else ITT said that Vandy offers travel stipends up to May 5. Do you have any word on whether they will offer stipends for people accepted after the 5th? I'm fretting being in that same position and not being able to visit the school.REN10330 wrote:Finally heard something yesterday. I was accepted with 35,000 a year. I didn't hear anything about it in my acceptance email, but should get a package in the mail tomorrow or the next day, and will let you know if it says anything about it there. I would assume, yes, but it would have to be used before my seat deposit next week (so very hard to actually use).bitter_melon wrote:Thanks for the update. I'm glad to hear they received your letter! I'm still waiting, but I'm losing hope with each passing day...not looking forward to putting down a second deposit next week with the possibility of losing it. I think at this point, it's a reality, I just don't like it very much at all. How long can they keep people on Hold waiting while they accept people off the Waitlist?Motion22Step wrote:I called and was told they'd received it. I get you completely. I'm not looking forward to that possibility either (maybe if I had a money tree in my backyard I'd be OK second-depositing in this scenario??). Yeah, it makes you think about the whole "first consideration" for Held applicants line in their email.amjam wrote:I'm glad to hear they received your letter! Anyway, the person I had spoken to did say they were reviewing and were expecting to make decisions soon. Plus, you had to have been Held for a reason, right? If Vandy is near the top of your list, I say hold on - at least for the next couple days of this week! (In the meanwhile, I wonder if you and I can't buy some time from those schools before putting down those 2nd deposits...

Re: Vanderbilt Law School c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
I'm on mobile and lazy, but basically all it said was that they've received a lot of applications this cycle and they're pretty tight on seats so they wanted to wait until after the first deposit to see where they stand. Said that's now passed, so they want to check to make sure if we're still considering the school and basically asked for a LOCI.blelwoods wrote:Tazewell wrote:I got the same thing. Wasn't about a waitlist, admit, or deny, but read to me like we were basically put on a waitlist so they're going to revisit our applications soon.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
