I don't mean to be a wet blanket on this policy bashing party, but wouldn't you feel a moral obligation? Someone who graduated from GULC and who is in a much better financial place donated money so that another student could have an opportunity that they might not otherwise be able to afford. If I accepted need aid I would eventually want to give money to the school in the hopes that I could better someone's life the way mine was. I was surprised by the bluntness of the statement as a "moral obligation," but I don't disagree with the sentiment.housebro13 wrote:WOW! I just received my ASW login and saw the deadlines as well as the statement about the moral obligation to repay the Dean Tuition grants.....no words.dsn32 wrote:I was just extremely turned off by both the enrollment deposit procedure, as well as their description of need based aid, where at one point they had the nerve to say something to the effect of one having a "moral obligation" to donate to Georgetown in the future to repay the grants. Very surprised that was they way they went about trying to sell you on the school.

Re: Georgetown c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
My concern with the statement regarding the need based grant was that it was worded as if it were another loan that needed repayment after graduation. I do feel that if a person were given need based aid from the school, they are obligated to at least give back. The idea that gave me pause was that they put a number as to the amount they are obligated to give back (the amount of the need based aid). Telling a person how much they are "obligated" to donate, in this case, just does not sit well with me.MJLE16 wrote:I don't mean to be a wet blanket on this policy bashing party, but wouldn't you feel a moral obligation? My thoughts exactly. It is worded as if you owe XXX amount of dollars to a school so that another person can pay over-inflated tuition at a later date, so that a system of over-inflated tuition prices can continue to subsist. Which to me, comes off as vulture-like.housebro13 wrote:My concern with the statement regarding the need based grant was that it was worded as if it were another loan that needed repayment after graduation. If a school puts me in a financial situation where paying back my need-based grants is actually an option, I'd be more than happy to. Especially if it's a school like Georgetown, where I'm below medians. Though I agree, tuition is pretty inflated.

It's weird because you, and the other helpful URM posters, are the reason that I became hopeful about this cycle. Stay strong man, your time to celebrate will come!Wormfather wrote:Just had my third update, complete 11/19.
So this means I should WL/Dinged by Tuesday, right?

You could be accepted or held. And that's certainly better than the other two options.Wormfather wrote:Just had my third update, complete 11/19.

what do people suggest for group interview attire? I mean, wearing something that I would wear to an actual one on one interview seems like overkill when it's with a group of people in an informalish sounding setting. thoughts?

I'd probably suggest suit or at least slacks and dress shirt. I was with 4 other people, and they all wore a suit and tie. If you want to make sure you're not too overdressed or underdressed, go with the slacks and dress shirt.jubee wrote:what do people suggest for group interview attire? I did GULC's group video interview on Tues. The dress code was business casual. Most of guys showed up with dress shirt or suit with no tie. The ladies had more choices, but quite a few also wore suit. It wasn't THAT informal.

If I were an adcom, I'd admit the guy who shows up in an all-white tuxedo out of principle. It's like the commercial with the guy who orders a Samuel Adams at a business lunch.Regulus wrote:...unless you were to rent an all-white tuxedo or something.

Forgot to mention that with my acceptance today there was no interview or mention of one. I submitted the 19th of November. Complete the week after. And my updates for each completion were about 5 days apart. My letter was dated the 10th of December.

I am a woman so that was another reason I was curious, as I think there's probably more options and flexibility for what is acceptable business casual.wisteria wrote:jubee wrote:what do people suggest for group interview attire? I saw a few girls with blouse/sweater/pencile skirt. Definitely more flexible.jubee wrote:iI am a woman so that was another reason I was curious, as I think there's probably more options and flexibility for what is acceptable business casual.wisteria wrote:jubee wrote:what do people suggest for group interview attire?
