Though of course the last day is probably even rarer than within 15 days lolJaqen wrote:Br3v wrote:15 days is guaranteed for ED. RD can be all the way up to the last day. It would be rare for a RD to hear back within 15 days.
not resident, not urm, not ed. I think the variation is likely due to differences in Why UVA's (or absence of them all together). That's all Cordel spoke about on the phone call. I suspect it was even more important than my personal statement. for all future applicants, do your why uva, research it well, and make sure you cant just sub out proper nouns for other schools (i.e. for uva, do it from scratch and take at least a few days on it)ncc5 wrote:I have no idea what to read from anything I have seen on this thread. Some people with close to 4.0's are getting full rides 5 days after they go complete, others with identical scores have been waiting since September. People way above both medians are getting sat on (or waitlisted) while people below them are getting in with money.
Maybe YP is true and it is just weird to watch happen in real time. I guess it would be helpful if people said if they were residents/urm/ed or not.

I have no idea what UVA is doing. I have the same numbers, non-resident, didn't write a Why UVA?, and they offered me $120k. I feel like they're just throwing darts to make their decisions. Whatever the reason, the others are right, with a convincing UVA essay they should be offering you some major money and begging you to enroll.zidane13 wrote:No, I only learned about yield protecting while browsing around TLS a couple months after I submitted my app. Off to research my Why UVA!jym_dawg wrote:Did you write a yUVA?zidane13 wrote:Awww waitlisted. 3.8x, 174 - was really thinking about UVA, especially if I could grab a decent scholly. I personally tell myself they offered Pacifica 150k so it must be a good thing.txwalt wrote: I have no idea what UVA is doing. People keep talking about how their strong Why UVA got them in, and I think that maybe there's something wrong with mine or they just arn't into me. Then a post like this comes along and confirms the process is largely arbitrary, and for some reason it deflates me even further. Dammit, UVA, I don't wanna be just an unrequited lover to you! 172/3.9, applied 11/07ish. I've been considering the same thing.TexasAggie13 wrote:Applied very early November with a 172/3.8 and have heard nothing. Should I send a LOCI or wait a while longer? Congrats to all the new admits!
Well, I don't know your numbers, but I can tell you my deal. I didn't write a "Why UVA" and used my general personal statement. I'm a resident as well. 4.0/164. I got in after about three weeks. I know it's anecdotal, but there is hope. It's no secret that mathematically residents get a bump, as well, so keep that in mind.ncc5 wrote:Feeling pretty good about not doing a Why UVA...
I can only hope being a resident will help

+1. With my 176, I fear a WL is coming. I've had some changes in my life and now I actually do have solid reasons to attend UVA. I'm wondering whether submitting Why UVA/LOCI after WL will be too late too little for admission/scholarship.Jaqen wrote:172/3.9, applied 11/07ish. Could be a congrats, could be mini-interview. Try to come up with a compelling reason why you would pick UVA over the likes of NYU and Harvard in case it's the latter.Mr. Elshal wrote:I have a phone call later today with Jason Dugas (I think). But I just got home from a 13hr red-eye flight and am way too exhausted to read through the whole thread. Would somebody be kind enough to fill me in on (A) whether a phone call is always a good thing, and (B) what happens in the phone call, like is it an interview or just a straight-up congrats?
Generally speaking, from what i've gathered on this thread, having a call scheduled is a very good thing. Most users have reported simply having a phone call during which they are accepted right away. Others have reported being asked the typical "Why UVA?" "Why law?" questions etc. only to find out at the end of the call that they were being called to be accepted anyway. Some other users, however, have been asked to call back, gone through similar questions only to be told that they will hear back from the admissions committee shortly.Mr. Elshal wrote:I have a phone call later today with Jason Dugas (I think). I wouldn't be worried about it at all, but would be prepared to answer the typical law school interview questions.
prepare for it like a why uva interviewMr. Elshal wrote:I have a phone call later today with Jason Dugas (I think).
