Re: U Penn 2010
Penn gets about 5700 applications a year, perhaps more for this year, and accepts about 16% of them (about 900). In each of the last three years, there were about 800 LSN applicants to Penn, netting about 200 acceptances each cycle. So the LSN data represents a disproportionately high rate of acceptance—maybe as high at 25% if the data is accurate.
So if, in any given cycle, the LSN applications represent about 14% of the total applications, and each year there are about 15 to 25 ED acceptances, even accounting for the slightly higher LSN acceptance rate, we can expect only between 3 and 5 ED offers to show up on LSN. Last year there were 5. So far this year there have been 8.
Does this mean anything?

unrelated but I think the people who purposefully say things akin to "Oh, U Penn State?" to piss people off are bigger douchebags then the people who get all up in arms about it.kittenmittons wrote: Joe Pa is going to retire from coaching their football team.

I think LSN is simply becoming much more used/well-known, but I may be wrong.x47point6 wrote:Penn gets about 5700 applications a year, perhaps more for this year, and accepts about 16% of them (about 900). Since I never even knew people confused the two until I came on TLS, I remain unconcerned.kittenmittons wrote:sadfacepuppins wrote:unrelated but I think the people who purposefully say things akin to "Oh, U Penn State?" to piss people off are bigger douchebags then the people who get all up in arms about it.kittenmittons wrote: Joe Pa is going to retire from coaching their football team.
Penn State is a good school in its own right though.

people do confuse them off of TLS. but it seems particularly douchey, knowing that, to pretend like you are unaware that people confuse them? I mean, either it's crazy elitism because penn isn't one of the upper ivies, or it's jealousy. or just douchebaggery.shadowfrost000 wrote: Since I never even knew people confused the two until I came on TLS, I remain unconcerned.

From what I hear from the UPenn undergrad crowd, this will actually become the bane of our existence.shadowfrost000 wrote:Since I never even knew people confused the two until I came on TLS, I remain unconcerned.kittenmittons wrote:sadfacepuppins wrote:unrelated but I think the people who purposefully say things akin to "Oh, U Penn State?" to piss people off are bigger douchebags then the people who get all up in arms about it.kittenmittons wrote: Joe Pa is going to retire from coaching their football team.

Something like that happens with Swarthmore College. All the locals elide the first R, notionally when talking about the town itself, but out of habit when talking about the school. Really undermines the prestige of the whole thing.puppins wrote:

Exactly! I submitted before Thanksgiving but haven't seen any movement at all on my status checker. The requirement list makes it look like I didn't send anything in yet-only when I double-checked, I had.managamy wrote:I think that the other poster may mean that it's submitted but he hasn't received a complete notification from Penn.Sigint wrote:I got mine in on the 23rd of November. Mine isn't even complete yet and I'm starting to get concerned.Sigint wrote:Ugh, I decided to embrace my anxiety and join up. A little part of me died inside.
Just got the "your UPenn app is complete and has been placed in queue" email.
After reading this thread I'm pretty nervous that I didn't do enough writing. I had to write the GPA addendum and I opted for the diversity addendum because my PS alluded heavily to a certain influential book. I also tailored it for UPenn so i didn't want to repeat myself with the "why penn" essay. So two additional essays instead of 3.
Bad choice?
