My significant other will be moving with me when I attend law school. Can anyone speak to the corporate opportunities in Charlottesville? He works in finance and is unsure what type of job he could get there. Thanks!

Most corporate stuff as far as I know is in either Northern VA or DCpizzagoblin wrote:My significant other will be moving with me when I attend law school. Probably not going to get anything in Cville. Richmond would be your best bet; it does have some opportunities (it's not NYC, but it's not nothing), and it's about an hour commute from Cville. You guys could live in the middle on I-64 and split the commute (it is COUNTRY though), or one of you could suck it up and make the long drive every day. Cville and west end Richmond are both very nice places to live.pizzagoblin wrote:My significant other will be moving with me when I attend law school. Hey everyone, quick question about visiting UVA after being admitted. Will NYU pay for a plane/train ticket and/or hotel room for me? What about for my girlfriend or parents? Can I just email the admissions team and ask, or is that in bad taste? Anyone have any experience with this? I was admitted back in mid-October, if that matters.

I doubt NYU will pay for your trip to UVA.futuregingerlawyer wrote:Hey everyone, quick question about visiting UVA after being admitted. You may have already seen this. 23 doesn't sound massive but I imagine that is far and away most related to self selection. I don't know if there were people who really wanted ATL and struck out over those three years though.

pretty well I think. Know a couple UVA grads who've been at a V50 down there the last two years and told me I'd have no problem getting a good job in ATL if I went to UVASweetTort wrote:Does anyone know how UVA does in Atlanta?

Does everyone who applied get an interview request at some point? Or can you get rejected/accepted without having an interview

Can't really speak to finance, but my SO is also planning to move and the job opportunities of C'Ville vs Durham are making me lean Duke
I posted this in 2012 in the UVA taking questions thread, but most the employers are still around:
Charlottesville has a university you may have heard about. They employ lots of folk. Additionally other major employers include:
- GE Automation & Controls (formally GE Intelligent Platforms)
- Northrop Grumman
- Crutchfield
- UVA health System
- another hospital (Martha Jefferson)
- Lexis Nexis (not sure how many folk they have in C'ville now)
- the CFA Institute
- the National Ground Intelligence Center

Just wanted to check in. I'm between 25th and 50th GPA and right at median LSAT with my December score so I'm expecting a ding but thought I would throw my hat into the ring anyways. Just excited to be in the waiting game now!

Just got an email to have a skype call with an admissions officer pretty soon to talk about my application. Any ideas on what I can expect and what that means for my chances?

Re: UVA c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
That's just their way of inviting you to an interview, so congrats! I'd say this improves chances quite a bit, since they interview everyone they're planning on admitting. The questions people have received in the past are scattered throughout this thread, so if you prepare based on that I think you'd be in good shape. Best of luck!tagomago wrote:Just got an email to have a skype call with an admissions officer pretty soon to talk about my application. I have been application under review since 12/1/2016....no words for an entire month.
Is this normal? Shall I do anything? Update/notify them of my LSAT score so at least they will look at my files?
