Re: Duke University School of Law C/O 2019 Applicants
A lot of a boost. Equal to the AA boost...so add 6-8 points to your LSAT and maybe .03-.04 to your GPA and see what your mysln odds would look like. That gives a rough picture of the kind of schools Duke might be thinking you'll have as options, cc. So, I'm sure they have to do a lot of internal pondering to make that admit/PR decision.mintme wrote:
Fellow NA here. How much of a boost do NAs get?
Exactly that, benwyatt. YP is basically an invitation to signal--how much do you really want to go to Duke or is Duke just one of several (14) law schools that meet some general objective criteria. I'm 100% with you, if I wasn't really committed to Duke, there's little chance I'd spend real American dollars on visiting in person, even if that's the strongest signal you could send and would probably get you off PR pretty quickly. Ultimately, unless you really want to actually attend Duke (I'm thinking top 3-4 choices), I wouldn't spend any money on it.benwyatt wrote:I think that's the point though.cc1012 wrote: I wish they did Skype interviews. Flying across the country to visit a school that I may not even be admitted to is hard to justify.
If you're Priority Reserve, they're definitely still considering you and you show a lot of commitment to the school by making that trip.

+1000. You'll see URMs who sweep HYSCCN, but can't get a sniff at Penn or UVA. Best advice is to hold on and know that you're going to get a good outcome one way or the other.cc1012 wrote: As a URM, cycles are notoriously hard to predict, hence why URMs are encouraged to apply to a great number of schools. I wouldn't worry now about getting YP'ed yet. Just be sure to write a Why Duke and sound genuinely interested in the school. You should be fine.

They say this in the app somewhere or at least in their admissions info, so read through all the information carefully. But to satisfy your question, they say they will hold it until your score is released. if you want them to consider it before the retake score, you should tell them. I would be safe and let them know either way you want to be considered.NotoriousRBGJr. wrote:When applying PT, if you answer 'yes' to the question regarding having a pending LSAT score, will they still hold your file for consideration until after you get your (retake) score back?
