Is anyone living in/looking at apartments in Allston? They seem like the cheapest options apart from the middle of Somerville. Do y'all think it's too far away (Harv & Commonwealth)?

Am up here right now, was just able to secure a great place in Beacon Hill for Sept 1. Very excited as well, I really like it up here. Sadly, I still have a month left to wait around in Jersey when I head back this weekend.TripTrip wrote:I just moved out of my apartment today, excited to move in to Cambridge in thirty!

I'm enjoying my last taste of CA weather before I fly out next week. Can't wait for section assignments!jselson wrote:Am up here right now, was just able to secure a great place in Beacon Hill for Sept 1. Very excited as well, I really like it up here. In two months' time, maybe not.

So..like below 80 I hope. That's like my personal limit.jselson wrote:

When I moved some stuff in early June, it was so hot. It was a shock to my system. Nights weren't too bad though, they were quite nice.

I wish we could move into the dorms prior to the 30th. I ended up in a type 5, which I'm pretty excited about.jselson wrote:The weather is amazing in Boston right now.bosmer88 wrote:I'm enjoying my last taste of CA weather before I fly out next week. Lol 80? That's pretty weak, bro. It's 8 pm and 100 degrees outside where I am. Feels quite nice though, when the sun isn't bearing down on you.bosmer88 wrote:So..like below 80 I hope. That's like my personal limit.jselson wrote:

Yeah, I don't do too well with hot weather. I thought coming from the South would help, but I just never got used to hot weather.CyanIdes Of March wrote:Lol 80? That's pretty weak, bro. Now we're constantly around 80. Great everything weather.
Here is the most important thing you need to know though. After a month, I can tell you that Tasty Burger is the best burger in the square, also, they have a burger of the day. You should look at it everyday and then decide your eating habits for the day. And there open until 4am, EVERY night.

Tasty Burger is confirmed awesome. Traditionally the favorite in the square is Bartley's, but Tasty Burger, having just arrived several months ago, has arguably already taken the crown. Y'all should try both and see what you think.
NB: if you broaden this to general HLS area rather than strictly Harvard sq, if you are a serious burger person then RF O'Sullivan in Somerville (~10-min walk from campus) needs your attention. In serious running for best burger I've ever had.

It was actually kind of pleasant, but I was in the shade on a roof of a large apartment building so I had a nice breeze going.bosmer88 wrote:Yeah, I don't do too well with hot weather. Hey, are the any other National Guard soldiers who are ineligible for the Post-9/11 who are/were thinking about conducting an IST to the MA guard? As far as I've been reading, there is zilch in state edu benefits for HLS students. Anyone find anything different? I'm about to cancel my IST request because my state has a reimbursement program that caps at $22k/FY for grad students at any accredited school.

Shout out for Flat Patty's as well (which has in my opinion always out-burgered Bartley's) but Tasty Burger is indeed the best bet in the Square for a great burger. Fries are also good, onion rings are so-so. They used to have an awesome buffalo chicken sandwich too but for some reason they switched from batter fried chicken, which tasted awesome, to breaded chicken that does not.

I love that we have an early exploration committee here - it's like an HLS Zagat guide.Wormfather wrote:Update: Pizza: Otto on the north side of the square next to CVS, I swear to fucking god, they arnt charging enough for it, its that good.
When I got into Cambridge the day before ASW, it was after midnight and tasty burger was the only place close to my hotel still open. And I agree - solid burgers (though no In-N-Out) and the milkshakes are good too. No idea about pizza though, but Otto's looks promising. If a place is worthy, keep the recs coming! (BTW, has anyone tried Pinocchio's? It got a shoutout on Suits so I'm curious)

Love Otto's. If you want to sit down Cambridge 1 is solid for pizza and has a good selection of local beers.
