Trying to hold out hope. Had a speeding ticket... which I know really shouldn't impact my application, but I'm hoping they might put people with C&F stuff in a separate pile or something.
This is an interesting idea. I have a C&F issue too, but it's not a traffic offense, it was a Park After Dark thing. I wonder if the fact that I haven't heard anything yet has to do with this or the fact that I'm East Coast, or that my last name is at the end of the alphabet. I wish schools would just be more transparent about this kind of stuff, but I guess that would decrease their leeway in the process.

I've gotten several speeding tickets, a couple of which were really egregious. I disclosed them all matter-of-factly in an addendum that I submitted to NYU and I was accepted in the first batch. I wouldn't worry about one ticket.

From what I can remember, NYU, Columbia, and Penn needed a C&F for speeding from where I applied so far.

Got the call yesterday around 5pm central. Told her I was expecting it all day, lol. My TLS addiction definitely showed.

One ticket won't matter!

Status was updated either 12/10 or 12/11 and it was updated today as well. Is this a sign of impending action from NYU or just a way to crush my hopes of an early, rather than late ding?

With regard to C&F -- I submitted a list of ten or so assorted moving violations and was DLS/ASW on 12/10. Nothing egregious, of course -- minor speeding violations, etc.

I can log into the Admitted Student page with my LSAC account. This means I'm admitted, right?

Funny that I received neither email nor mail so far for confirmation, although my online checker says that the decision letter was sent three days ago...I'm overseas so naturally do not expect a phone call, but why is there no email?

Yes, you are admitted. Occasionally (I think it's most of the time) there is a delay between when your DLS is sent, when you can log into ASW, and when your letter comes. Regardless, Nobody can access the admitted students page unless they are admitted, so I'd like to congratulate you on being accepted!

Unless it's a major or recurring offense, I don't believe anything on your C&F will have a significant impact on your chances (if it even has any impact at all). Especially just a traffic violation. I had an MIC and a few minor traffic violations, and I was admitted within 25 days of submitting my application. Don't stress about it.

Have you ever, either as an adult or a juvenile, been charged with or convicted of any crime, or charged with or found to have committed any offense (whether or not defined as a crime), or are any such charges pending? This should include matters that have been expunged or dismissed.
Any offense?

That is absurdly vague. My brother found that I committed the offense of eating his leftover cheesecake. He was pretty pissed. Does that need an addendum?

To be quite honest, I would be more offended by this than by somebody speeding. Eating someone's cheesecake is a pretty serious offense. Also, it would seem they want anything you were charged with, so even if you got off on a technicality, like using a baby's fork and then saying "If the fork doesn't fit, you must acquit", you still have to write it. I wouldn't dedicate more than 3-4 pages to this disclosure, though. All they really need are the details of the case, the recipe for the cheesecake, and a two-page description of how delicious it was.

Good luck man, I really hope this doesn't hold you back too much in the application process, and I'm sure the school will find a way to overlook what a terrible, horrible criminal you are--although your brother never will.

Lol. But seriously, the vagueness of this section is absurd. I would never disclose anything that didn't result in criminal charges. That means I would never include something stupid like drinking in the dorms (unless the school was intense enough to file charges). If there are no charges, then there is no chance I mention my "offense." It's ridiculous and no one is getting disbarred because they didn't say "I drank in the dorms my freshman year" on their application to law school.

I think there's a separate question for academic issues (which might include situations like that) but I understand what you're saying. I wasn't convicted of my issue, just charged. The charges will be expunged from my record in the beginning of February but I called NYU, and then a lawyer to confirm, and they said that as long as there was a charge, even if the charges were completely expunged, I would still be required to disclose that. I think what it comes down to is that you just need to take these questions as literally as possible, because once you start reading into them, you get into sticky business. At least if you take them at face value you can use that as a defense when they disbar you for farting on an airplane.

Its not a matter of hiding stuff, there's just nothing to tell. If C&F has an issue with that in a few years, this is exactly what i'll tell them. I can see it now.

C&F: Mr. Worm, we see that you had a speeding ticket fifteen years ago that you didnt mention on your application.

Me: What? How did you get those records, they said they didnt have them when I asked?

C&F We have our ways Mr. Worm. Now why didnt you disclose?

Me: You want the truth?

C&F: I think we're entitled to the truth.

Me: YOU CANT HANDLE THE TRUTH.

C&F: [laughter, high fives, etc] No worries, you're in.
