Actually they don't need it by Feb 15th, it only needs to be postmarked by Feb 15th according to the person I talked to at the office.

I've been snooping around but I can't find anything. Is there a time frame listed anywhere for the Sumner's scholly decisions? I'd like to go to SMU, and that scholly would go a long way toward getting me there.

So most of you applied for the Sumner scholly. Did many of you apply for the Hughes scholly, too?

I'm in a Westlaw training session, and one of the recipients is sitting directly behind me. I would ask, but I don't really know her that well.Burgstaller04 wrote:I've been snooping around but I can't find anything. Is there a time frame listed anywhere for the Sumner's scholly decisions? The only thing I can suggest is checking the SMU 2010 thread to see if there was any info about the timing of the interviews, etc.

Re: SMU 2011
I checked last year's thread...it looks like people received calls regarding interviewing for the sumner the first week of March, and calls on the hughes scholarship around the 15th of March.Thirteen wrote:I'm in a Westlaw training session, and one of the recipients is sitting directly behind me. I don't understand, do those applications only apply to people who were admitted already. Regular Decision was just closed yesterday so most don't have acceptance info. How can they close out the scholly before they've admitted everyone? They're telling me that regular decision won't render until late April?

Are you a 1L? I figured Westlaw would be like day one stuff. As much as there is to learn about it having periodic training sessions is probably a good idea.Thirteen wrote: I'm in a Westlaw training session.

Yep, I'm a 1L. They have training sessions before we get major assignments, so this one gave strategies to help us do the research for the appellate brief. Also, they always have food, and I can never pass up free Chick Fil-A and cupcakes.12thman2011 wrote:Are you a 1L? I figured Westlaw would be like day one stuff. I had it twice yesterday, and again at lunch today. I chose it over free Chipotle (Hispanic Law Student's Association meeting) or Jason's Deli (presentation by JAG attorneys).Capitol A wrote:Free Chick Fil-A????????????? They shove mandatory Westlaw and Lexis training down your throat on a constant basis. If it's a mandatory meeting, they don't even have the courtesy to give you food. If it's a voluntary meeting, then they bribe you. Eventually, it gets to the point where the free food simply isn't worth it.
Word of advice...do not buy a coffee mug for law school. You will get dozens by the end of 1L.

Does anyone have any guesses as to when another round of admits will likely occur?

I would guess pretty soon, since they are gearing up for ASW's. Probably by early March.

You can usually get a free lunch here at least 3 days a week if you don't mind sitting through some presentation; but they get old, and you will usually have too much s**t to do.Thirteen wrote:Yep, I'm a 1L. Also, we did no Westlaw research during my 1L year until we learned how to use the books. That may have already changed.

Re: SMU 2011
My application compete date just changed from 1/18 to 2/16. Anyone else? Does anyone know what this means? I've got solid SMU numbers, but I'm still very anxious to get the next phase of my life rolling, etc...
This was on my status checker page: "You may notice that your current status date has changed. This is either because a portion of your file has been updated or the initial review of your file has been completed. Nither [sic] of these situations change your early, regular, or late decision standing. We are unable to release decisions by phone or email. All final decisions will be mailed."
I'm hoping the "initial review" included stuffing a generous scholarship offer into an envelope. Any ideas?
