I spoke with one of the professors at CU Law about this aspect of it. Her daughter is in my daughter's class- we made the connection shortly after I found out I was accepted.

She said that in some respects, entering law school a bit older, as a parent, will be more straightforward. Her thought was that you treat it as a job, you go to school, you focus on studying more than on the social aspects, get down to business, and go home. Having families requires dedication and organization, and these skills will be helpful.

Have we already figured out whether CU sends out scholarship information later in the cycle after making initial decisions?

I applied last year out of state and got waitlisted. I removed myself from the waitlist because I decided to defer a year, and now i'm applying again (with somewhat updated app info) and I'll be in state this year.

CONGRATS to everyone who has already gotten in. Boulder is amazing!

Hopefully you're chances are good, since I've got the same LSAT, but a lower GPA, out of state too. But I'm starting to worry; went complete mid Nov, so I'm hoping to hear something soon. Probably be wait-listed. I'm hoping my work experience makes up for the GPA. Anybody know if they value work experience very much?

My letter said that you are automatically considered for scholarships and that these offers will go out starting in late January.

As more of a traditional student--just a few years out of UG--I really hope that you parents enroll! I think that's a really, really important perspective for our class to have. I admire it so much... I have no idea how I would juggle everything. And I highly encourage you to use the fact you have a family to take care of (in addition to doing everything else!) to slap us around when the rest of us non-parents are freaking out about not having enough time to get everything done :)

Why would you worry? 5 people on LSN have been accepted. FWIW, I went complete 12/04 and not a peep. Good luck!

Thanks for the encouragement! I don't know if I speak for all the parents here, but, by the time I get to school, I've already done enough redirecting for the day. I'll just be glad to discuss class with you all for a little bit, freaking out notwithstanding.

Oh I know!! I was 99% kidding...of course it's not your job to tell us to shut up :)

On another note... whenever I tell people that I got into CU, [lay people] usually respond with: "well, don't you want to go to DU? It's a better school."

Which is NOT to say bad things about DU, but it is slightly bizarre. Does this happen to anyone else??

I haven't had that one. But most of the people I've told are classmates or professors, so they know the score.

Edit: to add YAY DU! for the vast improvement in bar passage rate this year!

Congrats to all you admits and good luck to all those waiting. CU has been growing on me of late, I had an awful experience when I went to visit a few months back, but I put a bad tour guide out of my mind and am excited the more I find out about the school.

I too am a parent. I am only 25 (26 when I enter law school) with what will be a 2-year old daughter. Boulder seems to be a nice safe place for families.) So here is to hoping some love comes via mail soon.

Well to keep the story short, my wife and I drove the 8 hour trip to Boulder to check out the facilities and talk with some of the staff over the summer. (Problem #1) They seemed very unorganized and the 3L that was giving the tour knew less about Colorado's programs/numbers/ and school then I did. I actually found myself helping him with basic statistics of the school during our tour. (Problem #2) Then he went off on how CU has a great intellectual property journal and bashed the other journals and programs (as he was part of the IP program). He finished it off by talking about how everyone there is very liberal and aren't welcoming to any insight outside of the majority. The whole time while oozing arrogance and turning all 7 of us into less interested. When he asked for questions some girl's dad made a few comments about how awful he was then we all left feeling like CU was an awful place. I actually spoke with a couple other of the potentials that were there with me and the consensus was that no one was going to apply. Interestingly enough I think that jerk caused much more damage then good (alteast through the month of August when I visited).

I have had to convince myself that he was a representative of the law population as a whole.
Wow, that brought back all of the feelings of disgust I had tried to subdue over the last four months. Words can't express how awful it was.

I'm so sorry! That does sound awful! My tour was the opposite. My guide was a really knowledgeable and friendly 1L who would have made me want to go there MORE, if that would have been possible.
