Hah alright man. The truth is I don't care that much, but to Legacy - thanks for providing.hopefulundergrad wrote:Dude, I don't even have my status checker email yet but I know from last year's thread. Search through that or just browse UM's website.crackberry wrote:And where do you log in?hopefulundergrad wrote:Yes you can. If you can log in, then obviously you've been admitted. If not, WL or rejection.crackberry wrote:So in other words, in the maximum 2 days (more likely 1) between when it says "decision," but before you get your letter, you could use your UM ID or whatever that thing is called to log into the admitted students site?

If it makes you feel any better, you guys aren't missing anything. The most recent bullet on there was for 2009 Orientation, so they haven't even updated the site for this cycle...

Yeah, I'll admit that my tone wasn't right (sorry for that), but I'm honestly curious about this. What's the advantage of this program, and what kind of work would you see yourself doing if you got the dual degree?j2d3 wrote:Your Screenname is perfectionjackassjim wrote:Why do a jd if your endgoal is to be a librarian (or collection management and acquisition technical specialist)?j2d3 wrote:Jd /msi. .. how popular? Just FYI for Michigan applicants: Don't panic if you don't get accepted/get any news right away. I submitted early and I think I didn't get in until February. Waiting a long time doesn't necessarily imply a rejection the way it does with some other schools.

I got the received email five or six days after I submitted. If I don't get the status check email by the end of this week I'm sure I'll get it at the beginning of next.duodora wrote:Ditto...JollyGreenGiant wrote:I submitted my app about a week ago and I haven't even gotten the "received" e-mail yet. Re: michigan 2010 applicants
Does the status tracker always update to the present day?
Or are they just really looking that hard at my app?
(Think I know the answer to this one...)

Well, I know it changes for SOME people every day, just want to see if there are any exceptions (i.e. it doesn't change for ALL people everyday)oneforship wrote:See 10 posts above or so.BarCliff wrote:Does the status tracker always update to the present day?

Re: michigan 2010 applicants
While I'm not positive, I'm pretty sure there's kind of a ceiling you hit as a law librarian without a JD. I mean it makes sense, law librarians are supposed to be knowledgeable on not only the cataloging of legal references, but also legal research and to an extent legal writing as well. If you look at the site showing the Staff of U of M's law library (http://www.law.umich.edu/library/info/a ... /bios.aspx), six out of twelve have JDs, with some even from Michigan Law. It also looks like those with JDs tend to be closer to the top in the hierarchy. I have a friend who went to law school, didn't like firm life and is now going back to get the MIS to be a law librarian. It's a fairly overlooked position in the legal world, and while not sounding as cool as working for a V10 firm, it seems like it would be a decent paying, stable job with good benefits, a lot better than struggling to make it on your own or with a small firm if you don't like the work you're doing...jackassjim wrote:Yeah, I'll admit that my tone wasn't right (sorry for that), but I'm honestly curious about this. Just got my application received email (171, 3.28). Michigan's my top choice and I think I wrote a good "Why Michigan" essay so I'm hoping they'll overlook the low GPA.

Re: michigan 2010 applicants
I'm confused...
I just got my michigan "received" email today--and they said they'll request my report but it will take them 2 weeks to get it...
But I applied to Berkeley the same day and am already under review there...
How does that work? (Or is "under review" a VERY broad category?)

I think the first batch of acceptances (likely the EDs for sure) will go out right before Thanksgiving...babin.6 wrote:When do they usually let their ED people know. I have strong numbers for UM (3.83 170) and want to know if I'm in or if I need to start dropping $ on more apps. Anyone know when they let you know, or how they let you know (via phone, e-mail)?

Re: michigan 2010 applicants
Michigan is fairly slow (it took me a month to go complete after I applied, last cycle). Thankfully, they're not nearly as slow as Penn or Chicago have historically been...duodora wrote:I'm confused...

Re: michigan 2010 applicants
They might. It's good you applied early. The spots for splitters and the more borderline candidates get used up quickly. I wouldn't be surprised if you got a WL, but that's not the worst thing, as it gives you a great opportunity to expand on yourself and why you love Michigan...kmnska wrote:Just got my application received email (171, 3.28).
