Re: Harvard Waitlist Statistics
i've deposited at uva, and am on the HLS WL. so they are going a bit into the t10.
however, i was also accepted at boalt and WL->accept at UChi, so take that for what it's worth i suppose

Re: Harvard Waitlist Statistics
"majority" is quite a reduction from "almost everyone". Admittedly anecdotally, most of the folks I know waitlisted at HLS have deposited outside the T-6. I just wondered if your sense was backed up by data somewhere, that's all.Gators08 wrote:I would guess that UVA, NW and a few Dukies are as far down the rankings as they really go. And the majority are probably CLS, NYU, Chicago, Boalt.
@ Ubuntu- I would buy that most folks W/L'd at HLS were accepted in the T-6. But more than 50% of a very large waitlist headed to (now) four schools? Strikes me as a curiously strong claim.
@zipzoop- Optimism all the way!

Like I said, just my guess. Didn't mean it originally to be a definitive statement, was just trying to convey that they already knew you were going to a great school if you were good enough for them to waitlist.

Re: Harvard Waitlist Statistics
Going back to the initial comment, I'd say it'd be more accurate to say many people on their waitlist have been accepted to a T6 school, but these people might be attending other T14 schools with more money.Probably not. Almost everyone on their waitlist is going to be committed to a top 6 school, and by staying on the waitlist you've essentially already told them that you would leave wherever you deposited to go to Harvard..
I do however, agree with the general point of your argument, that most people on the Harvard waitlist are deposited at excellent schools, and that saying you'll give one of those up (even an equal such as Stanford) isn't necessarily going to give you any better of a chance.

ah, the ambiguous, unresolved tension of anonymous message boards. gotta love.
aka, gotta love it's ability to distract from deciding where to go to LS.

Re: Harvard Waitlist Statistics
No tension here. I'm just intrigued by the suggestion that surely HLS waitlisted folks were bound for apparently the next best thing- the T-6, or if not T-6 surely no lower than the T-14, and even then only for money...
As my calculus in applying to schools did not work this way, it's interesting to me to learn how many applicants' personal rankings so closely mirror those of USNWR- even within the top 10. This T-6 distinction is new for me. That's all.
Good luck to all still waiting to hear good news!

Re: Harvard Waitlist Statistics
FWIW on this T6 vs T14 vs waitlist discussion, I withdrew from the CLS & HLS waitlists for $90k in scholarship to Georgetown. It wasn't really a hard decision either because I just felt that I'd be happier at Georgetown.
Totick - I would take the Stanford acceptance any day over a Harvard waitlist, acceptance, or scholarship (if they decided to offer them). Just to again underscore that everyone has their preferences and that prestige and ranking are only part of the factors that go into it.
*BTW - even though I've dropped off the waitlist, I still like checking this thread to see how you're all doing. Best wishes and hang in there...I'm sure Harvard will be letting some of you in shortly!

It's still relatively early (as least for waitlisters), so don't give up just yet.
Anyone know whether Harvard has a second deposit deadline? Maybe that'd be a date to look at for more waitlist movement.

zip, I think they usually do a wave this week. But, it seems from the comments on this board, that didn't happen. So, maybe that wave is coming today and tomorrow.zipzoop wrote:anyone else starting to feel like it's kinda hopeless at this point?
Ill start to feel really hopeless at this time next week.

I'm WL'd at the top 2, but I'm going to UCLA and only using my acceptance at one of those schools to ask for more money from UCLA....
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
