Re: Northwestern c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
I submitted my app two days ago and have not yet received any email from Northwestern with my status checker. Is this normal? Longest it's taken for any school so far, incl. Cornell

Haha yeah, that's what I meant by "struggling." I emailed them to ask if they were going to open up any more slots and they said no. The video interview is so awkward, I don't want to do that as ED and apparently it's too late to request an off-campus one as an ED applicant now.guybourdin wrote:"Struggling" - there are none! I'm going to e-mail.calgoldenbear wrote:Is anyone else struggling to find an on-campus interview slot? I'm applying ED and wanted to do an on-campus interview, but everything before the deadline is taken. I really don't want to do the video interview. Would it help to email the admissions office?

Well, I don't think a video interview is that bad. Just seems weird, like, oh yeah, I'm three miles from you but we can skype.

Putting the finishing touches on this app! It's starting to feel incredibly real.
Hope NU still likes reformed-dumpster-fire splitters.

I think this is normal at it depends more on the "labor" at the school, I imagine it varies. It took like a week and a half for some schools to send me my info, even though I applied to ALL my schools the same day. No reason to worry yet

For those that requested a fee waiver on Northwestern's website- how long did it take for them to email you the code?

Re: Northwestern c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
I believe the video interview is a recorded interview, not a skype one with an actual person, which is why it's awkward. I'm a reapplicant and did that last year. The admission office did say to check the calendar periodically in case people cancel and spots open up for on-campus interviews.guybourdin wrote:really? that's crazy!calgoldenbear wrote:Haha yeah, that's what I meant by "struggling." Re: Northwestern c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
Alright, I've decided to ED. Pretty serious splitter with 4 years of semi-significant work experience, a strong rec from an alum, and I'm local (sure that doesn't matter at all!). It's not my no 1 choice, and all things equal I'd probably rather leave chicago, but the money is great and I do like the school a lot. Well see what happens! I know it's probably pretty unlikely, so I don't really have anything to lose applying!

Dude, this sounds like a pretty solid plan. There's almost no downside to applying ED at NU--worst they can do is say no and if they say yes, you really do have your hands on a great outcome. Good luck!!guybourdin wrote:Alright, I've decided to ED. did you apply ED last cycle? I checked out your LSN profile and we have really similar numbers. also how did you manage to bump Duke and Mich to 135K?urbanist11 wrote:Just wanted to wish you guys good luck with your application cycles. I did not apply ED. I used the Northwestern offer to get Michigan to bump theirs up and then turned around and used those two to get Duke to increase.proteinshake wrote:did you apply ED last cycle? So I submitted my app Tuesday and never heard from them and then today got my off campus interviewer assigned. Is this normal? Did I miss the status checker email?

Application in! Which means I now have a "plausible" explanation for being a Cubs fan this world series.

Re: Northwestern c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
Just had my alumni interview. Very enjoyable, lasted one hour, and the guy was super helpful and offered to give guidance even if I didn't choose NW in the end. I'd highly recommend that anyone who can do an off-campus interview as opposed to an online one do so. Based off of how impersonal the online one is and because theres no true conversational flow, I feel like a person doing the online interview could come across much more poorly than if they met with an actual person. Obviously, if it's logistically impossible, then do the online one. But for me it was a 45 min drive as opposed to sitting in my room and I think it was well worth it.

I am very excited to say that I talked to a bunch of people and I am going to apply ED at NU! The school is one of my top choices anyway, and for that money it seems like the best choice.

With your stats (177 LSAT), if you write a "why NU" essay, you may actually end up getting more than 150k.I am very excited to say that I talked to a bunch of people and I am going to apply ED at NU! The school is one of my top choices anyway, and for that money it seems like the best choice.

I didn't even realize that was a possibility. I think that will be a relatively simple essay too (I am from Chicago, really love that they stress work experience).88234 wrote:With your stats (177 LSAT), if you write a "why NU" essay, you may actually end up getting more than 150k.I am very excited to say that I talked to a bunch of people and I am going to apply ED at NU! Ahhhh... I don't know if that is worth the risk. I would rather be guaranteed $150k than gable over a few extra thousand.88234 wrote:You'd havw to forgo ED, however.
