I know :( I wish there was an archive of past class profiles to see what the trend has looked like over the past decade.
Here are past stats I found using archive.org:

Class of 2017: 51% women
Class of 2016: 48% women
Class of 2015: 45% women
Class of 2014: 47% women
Class of 2013: 50% women
Class of 2012: 51% women
Class of 2011: 49% women
Class of 2010: 46% women

So 45% women isn't unprecedented, but it's definitely on the low side.

As a side note, I'm a 2L at YLS now -- if you all have any questions about the school or the application process, feel free to PM me!

For perspective this is a class size of 200. So 110 men and 90 women.
Fortunately for you boys, I'm on my phone and posting pics is too much work. However, there's a wonderful gif of Judy garland in a red dress singing "I don't care!" Please imagine that gif right here as my response. :P
If you were truly progressive, you would realize that "gender" is a construct created by and in service of the "male" dominated Western Patriarchy. A focus on balancing the number of admitted "male" and "female" applicants is exactly what the Western Establishment wants progressives to adopt, since it forces progressives to accept the Patriarchy's central premise: that there are such objective "genders" as "male" and "female."
We need to stop focusing on "gender" equality, and expose the invalidity of the "gendered" world view that serves as the foundation of Patriarchy.

Quick 250 question: obviously it's a terrible idea to go over 250 words, but I was wondering what people think about going substantially under 250 words?

Take this with a massive grain of salt because I'm obviously talking out of my ass here, but 125 sounds extremely short to me and I'd be hesitant to submit it if it were me.
I'm really hesitant to apply to Yale (being a splitter and all) but I have been working at a Y250... Do you think submitting a recent research abstract is a good idea? It at least demonstrates I have other skills...right?
Just wanted to drop in and encourage you to apply. I was a non-URM splitter who went to a large public university for undergrad and the only thing that really stood out on my resume were some ridiculous travel experiences. It is always worth a shot and--while there are several amazing schools out there that might fit you better than YLS--if YLS is somewhere that interests you, create a kick!@# application and go for it!

Good luck to everyone this application cycle.
