Does anyone have any idea how many applicants Stanford typically waitlists every year (I've seen the T14 waitlist thread, but I know that data from LSN doesn't always necessarily reflect what a school is doing completely accurately)?

Now that it seems like WL movement could be starting up soon, having some solid information about how many waitlisted applicants they have to choose from - in addition to having some idea of how many people they will be offering spots to, which I know has already been discussed here a bit - would definitely help me in my attempts at having somewhat realistic expectations/staying relatively functional while I wait to see what happens.

Hey guys, do any of you plan on visiting Stanford while on th Waitlist?

To any current students or people who have done this, what do you recommend doing while there?

Hope restored. For a second I was worried Stanford seriously upped their yield this year and the WL would be a crapshoot.

Classes end today and finals are next week so idk if there will be much to see. I may be alone in this, but I actually don't find visiting schools to be very valuable even when school is in session.

I guess if you've never been to CA it could be a good excuse to visit but in general I think whether or not Stanford off the WL is a good fit will largely depend on 1) cost of your other option vs. estimated need aid at Stanford and 2) career goals.

Just my 2 cents of course, I know visits may be fun/helpful to others.

I wonder how much more it will drop... I mean, that 140 was barely into business hours today. Maybe it will go even lower than last year

Indeed it is. Of course, this could be explained my a severe decrease in applicants who were admitted but do not have Facebook. Still, I am choosing to be optimistic about this. It also seems that this number is less or about equal to the one from last year, and hopefully that means that decisions will start coming out within the next couple of weeks. :D

I volunteer Mack to ask about the wait list, since he already got into Harvard. :)

Mack, since it is June, would you mind changing the poll to ask which option currently reflects our status (admitted, WL, admitted, WL, rejectected, etc ?

Also, do you guys think that finals being in session affects when they begin looking at the class?

I don't think it does.. they have extended offers last year during finals. I think admissions is separate from academics, unless they have people on the admission committee this year that also work in the academic department?

I know of at least one person who's been admitted off the waitlist as of today (could have been a few days ago, though). Also, admissions was basically closed last week because of an LSAC conference.

I don't know what's more surprising: that they started accepting people off the wait-list... Or that there are actual "LSAC conferences"

My understanding from speaking with the office last week is that only LLMs have moved off the wait list. No movement on JDs for "another couple weeks." That suggests next week at the earliest.

Did they say anything about how big the waitlist is, how many people they expect to admit off of it, etc.?

They expect the "usual number" off the wait list. Seems that matches the numbers we are seeing in this thread and from the Facebook group.

I think 40-50? Mainly based on the size of the Facebook group before WL movement, but I don't know if this is accurate.

5th was first day of movement last year so anytime from now on I would not be surprised to see JD decisions
