Anyone wanting to land Chicago would need good grades. You MAY have a slightly more difficult time if you're from out of state and don't have good grades (mostly b/c you won't get interviews), but that isn't necessarily a universal truth.

"Good grades" is slightly subjective, but anecdotally, top 10% did well, top 20% did OK; beyond that, it was tough and a bit more random (some top 1/3 got biglaw, some top 25% did not). NY is uncommon, but again, that is most likely due to self-selection (I don't know where everyone landed, but I do know that some IP folks at least had interviews there).

I mean you'll need really good grades to get Chicago biglaw even if you were born on the miracle mile. Midlaw and small firm is where you might have issues with ties. If you just want any legal job in Chicago I would imagine you could get it no matter what your grades are (within reason) as long as you have other things going for you. UofI doesn't rank people outside the top 1/3 afaik (chardee may know better) which reduces the "bottom of the class" stigma that you get at schools that rank everyone. You could be bottom of the barrel and still have a dece GPA.

I would be wary of coming to UI with intentions to go to NY. My mentor is working a prestigious PI job in NYC but he's from there and went to NYU undergrad. We do send people to NY, but I think most of them are from there to begin with. If NYC is a priority you'd be better served at ND, WUSTL, or Fordham (although Fordham is scummy and doesn't give big $$$).

Excellent, looks like a pretty quick turn around on a decision. Looks like 12/9 was the first wave of acceptances for everyone that had submitted on LSN. Hopefully they have another wave before Christmas.

Does anyone here actually live at The Village? I looked them up online and they've got terrible reviews.

Also, I've asked this in another forum too but I've been accepted with a good scholly. I retook last week. They won't take back my scholly if I bombed the retake would they?

The Village is a popular option because it's a not terrible, not horribly expensive option where you'll be mostly living with law students and other grad students. Plus the shuttle will drop you off right at the law school. But I haven't lived there so I couldn't tell you first hand.

As far as the scholarship goes... I don't work in the admissions department so I don't know for sure so don't take my word as gospel, but they're not going to revoke your scholarship because of a lower LSAT score. I'm not even sure if they're allowed to. At any rate, since the higher score is the one they report to the USNews rankings and put in their 509 report, that's the one they're most going to care about.

It's finals so I'll be on here off and on for the next couple weeks, but if you have any more questions don't be afraid to ask!

The village is both great and not so great, but for 1Ls it's the place to be. Just make sure if you sign that you're not in a building right next to the railroad track or dog kennel. Location is key in the Village.

Staying at the Village will give you insta-friends for law school. Most of us partied together for a week and a half before orientation.

The shuttle runs every 15-30 minutes and drops you off/picks you up right next to the law building.

As far as bombing the retake goes, it won't make a shit bit of difference. Make no mistake, UofI is buying LSATs and GPA's right now. They only report the highest, so why would they care if you scored lower subsequently? You'd have to get like a 140 or something for them to take notice, which you won't.

Thanks for the info guys. UIUC is at the top of my list right now so I'll definitely be asking more questions, thanks in advance. Did you guys have an admitted students fb page or do they just do the forum on the schools website.

I was hoping for an admitted students FB page! The forum is kind of lacking :/

Normally admitted students just hang out on TLS and matriculating students form a FB group in the summer.

If you're 100% sure you're going to UIUC (like already deposited and stuff) feel free to make a private group on FB and email admissions the link. They'll send it out in the admitted newsletter every so often. RLowry23 did that for our class last year. But again, I wouldn't do it unless you're 110% committed to UofI. It would be real awkward to be mod of the UIUC Class of 2018 facebook group if you're actually going to WUSTL. Otherwise just wait around until spring and one will pop up eventually.

Adding to this, it would be a very lame group right now. A number of admitted and matriculating students aren't on this forum (surprisingly), so if you wait until next spring when more folks start accepting offers and the admissions office sends more correspondence, you'll have more students joining.

But hey, create the group to your heart's content. For now, use this site as your resource for Qs about the school.

I guess waiting till the spring to start any fb groups would probably be better.

What are your guys thoughts on job prospects? I'm interested to see how the Class of 2014 did as the number of students was significantly less than the year before ( I don't know exactly how many people graduated however the entering class (fall 11) was 184 compared to 228 for the year before, and 231 graduated in 2013 so I'm assuming the number would be somewhere close to 184) Do you guys have any info on how they did or do we have to wait till the numbers come out?

Haven't heard much about it really. From what little I've heard it sounds positive. It's not going to be another 10% jump but it looks like we'll stay in the 70%+ range. Getting above 75% legal employment is really difficult and if we were able to hit that I'd be really excited. You have to factor in that there are just some people who never intended to practice, didn't take the bar, failed the bar, left the country to do god knows what, start pumping out babies, or are pursuing another graduate degree. Shit, Yale isn't even above 80%. Can't wait to find out though!

I'm planning on attending the March 20th open house. I'll be flying into Chicago first, so I'm wondering what would be the best way to go from Chicago to Champaign if you aren't old enough to rent a car (at a good price, if at all) for the trip.

I got a letter in the mail with a handout listing a breakdown of the cost of attendance and a letter from an Assistant Dean. The letter reiterated the offer of a full tuition scholarship, explain the "Illinois Guarantee", listed seat deposit information, etc.

I'm curious as to whether any part of the $3,821 fees are covered by the scholarship offer.

It might be a bit early but usually when would be a good time to start looking for an appartment?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
