Just intent to practice. Nothing compulsory. You do eventually have to file it (which you can do at the same time you apply during 3L year to take the bar in the summer), but it costs $150 more if you miss the deadline fall of 1L.ilikebaseball wrote:Oh okay, so it makes the process a little more smoother in 3L I guess? If you sign your intent to practice in Texas, doesn't this make other options in DC, for example, impossible? Or is this just INTENT to practice, and not forcing youBVest wrote:For students in Texas who intend to practice Texas, the Declaration of Intention allows for pre-screening of C&F issues, without having to wait until your 3L or even later for the Board of Law Examiners to tell you they're not going to license you. On the flip side, it allows them to get a large number of their investigations out of the way so they don't have 2500 investigations that they have to complete in the less-than 180 days before bar apps are due and the bar exam is administered.
If you file a Declaration during your 1L, then your application for the bar exam that you file during 3L consists of just employers, residences, and C&F issues from law school. If you don't file one, your app for the bar exam is the whole kit and kaboodle, and may delay your admission to the bar while they complete the investigation.

Any other admitted students know if we are supposed to register for the admitted students day March 6th if we plan to attend? I'm confused because it lists the dates, but no information about signing up or the agenda. I don't want to just show up without knowing anything haha. Any information helps! Thanks and congrats to everyone else admitted/ good luck to those waiting!!

Think i read that you're supposed to email for your spot. And that would make sense because that's how it is at most other schoolsAllegramelton wrote:Any other admitted students know if we are supposed to register for the admitted students day March 6th if we plan to attend? I couldn't find anything about how to sign up or the timing of the event, so I sent an email to Ms. Dillon.
Update: I received my email a few days ago - RSVP'd!

Is anyone considering negotiating for more scholarship? I was offered 15,000 a year, however, I'm hoping to get closer to 20. I know that UH doesn't award outrageous scholarship, but I was offered a great one from Baylor I'm hoping will sway them. If anyone knows any stories, or has already tried negotiating I would love to hear any feedback! Thanks!

I'm in the same situation (assuming you're in-state). I haven't begun negotiating with UH yet though. It would be great to hear if anyone else has had any success...Allegramelton wrote:Is anyone considering negotiating for more scholarship? Submitted 12/10 but not processed until mid-January. Median LSAT/undergrad GPA stats with a 4.0 graduate medical ethics degree (going for health law). Love their joint J.D./Ph.D program in the medical humanities... Should I be concerned since I haven't heard back yet?
UH is my top choice as Texan. It's a wonderful school, location, and most importantly, law program.

In via status checker as of 2/24 but no email yet? Is this normal?

I think they give priority to in-state residents. Are you in-state or OOS?Rstein888 wrote:Do yall feel like UH cares about softs more than most schools if at all? I have had some friends below the medians get in and others close to it get rejected/
