wtrc, congrats on HLS! I recall reading somewhere that there was a 'curse' for the OP of the applicant thread - glad to see you broke the trend!

Since you're trying to distinguish from being a KJD (I think) it makes sense to have a LOR from your employer. That being said, if it was me I would only include it in addition to two academic LOR's.

Aha, likewise. If anything it should be a boost to your application akin to an above average soft, but that's just my opinion. :P

Harvard should just auto-admit everyone on the spreadsheet right now. Those numbers look pretty good!

Oh yeah - I have two academic LORs, as well as one from a moderately prestigious research gig I worked. I would bump the other work recommendation from my app in favor of one from my current job and rather than having 4.

Hi,
Checking in.

These may be obvious to the experienced ones here, but I am new to this and haven't been able to find answers to these.

- does LSAC recommendation form ask specific questions of recommenders "give an example of when the applicant did really well on XYZ" like B school recs do?
- is there a type of evaluation grid in recommendation form (other than formal evaluation forms) where they have to rank the applicant?
- is the letter typically a single narrative document by the recommender or some other format? Typical length?

thanks!

There's a sample rec form on your LSAC account.

I see the form but the language suggests that it's something that needs to be attached "with" the uploaded rec, it's not a complete rec document in and of itself. I phrased the question poorly, but what I meant to ask if the recommendation letter answers specific questions sent to the recommenders by the committee? Where can one see the questions that lsac will send to the recommenders?

Just find someone who will persuasively write how amazing you are in every conceivable aspect of life. For ex, they might write something like this:

appind over-complicates simple things like soliciting letters of recommendation.

This poll is interesting. I'm pretty intrigued by the amount of parental $$$.

Likewise. Although one thing to keep in mind is that people may have chosen a combination of parental $$$ AND loans, savings, etc. which may be skewing the individual choice results.

I kind of expected more parental $$$. In an article by william dereciewitz (spelling), i read that ivy league students almost invariably hail from the wealthier stratums of society.

Good luck everyone. I was admitted last cycle but I deferred for a year. I can try to answer any questions you might have, though I have far less knowledge than some of the TLS superstars.
