omg please don't ED Columbia. You have a great shot RD and by EDing you commit yourself to going for sticker price. I mean, I guess ED if you have a huge trust fund or something. Regardless, congrats on the great score!laurazee wrote:Hi guys, I've been stalking this website for a year while studying for the LSAT and after Powerscore, Velocity, and a tutor (I highly recommend him if anyone is looking), I'm finally applying for 2018! I have a 172 and a 3.7 from a top 20 institution, and I'm thinking about applying to Columbia ED. I have an extremely rough personal statement written, I've already asked my profs for recommendations, and I'm excited to obsess about apps with all of you!

Trying to decide if I will retake in September, got a 172 on June when I was pt'ing around 176. I'm mostly concerned because my gpa is only 3.81...thoughts?

Re: TLS c/o 2018 Applicants
I was considering Harvard, but I was more concerned overall with the T14s, since my GPA looks below the median for half. I'm looking particularly at UVA, but I'm also seriously looking at ccn. Money is a concern, and with summer classes and other commitments I'm not sure if studying for a retake would be wise or effective.smccgrey wrote:It would probably depend on where you want to go and to what extent money is a concern... Since you said "only 3.81" I'm guessing your goal is HYS? In that case, yeah, retake. It looks like this exam had few TLSers get over 175, and you obviously have the potential.BruiserWoods wrote:Trying to decide if I will retake in September, got a 172 on June when I was pt'ing around 176. Are you averse to studying intensely for another three months and dropping $200?

3.81 172 should be netting you some serious money at UVA, hopefully a little money at CCN as well.BruiserWoods wrote:I was considering Harvard, but I was more concerned overall with the T14s, since my GPA looks below the median for half. Re: TLS c/o 2018 Applicants
@bruiserwoods & everythingbagel: I know the feeling! I got a 172, which I know is good, but since my PT average was 176 by test day, I am tempted to retake. I am going to need serious scholarship money, since I'm doing PI but don't want to commit to the LRAP route. I am considering a Dec or Feb retake depending on how my admissions cycle is going. Any input on how a retake might affect a WL decision if I am already slightly above LSAT medians at my target schools? Is it pointless to retake at that point?

Checking in.
Now that I've finished studying for and stressing over the LSAT, it's time to figure EVERYTHING else out.

Checking in! How early do we have to send transcripts in if we want to get applications submitted by the beginning of September? I'm waiting on a pesky overseas institution that has so far taken over 4 months to send my transcript back...

Me too! Hopefully. But yeah, it's terrifying.hereisonehand wrote:Nah I feel ya. But it's a scary prospect.everything_bagel wrote:Money isn't an issue because LRAP. I know this runs counter to TLS logic, but I can't be the only one in this position. I'm curious if this strikes the rest of you as totally crazy, or whether anyone else is leaning in the same direction.

It was a huge spreadsheet that had other stuff too- gpa/lsat, interview info, why x, etc etc.

Is anyone writing a personal statement about something that isn't WE/extracurricular activities/adversity in life (i.e. not something super substantive/not something on your resume)? Pls post or PM me I'm dying of lack of PS topic and hoping someone else's rando idea will inspire me somehow

Just got my first unsolicited fee waiver from Case Western. Who else is getting waivers right now and from where?

Re: TLS c/o 2018 Applicants
Checking in. 3.93 GPA, might drop after this summer to 3.89
, and taking LSAT in September. Hoping for at least a 168. Still haven't done personal statement or LoR requests. I'm looking forward to the cycle, but then again I'm not. I don't want to write a personal statement, I'm scared to hell my GPA is gonna flop, and I sure as hell don't want to take the LSAT. Ugh. I hope this is more fun for you all than it is for me!

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
