I just got a $20000 a year tuition "waiver" offer via email, renewable based on GPA stipulation. I'd been waiting for a while to hear something so hopefully everyone else is starting to hear as well!

Congrats!! If you don't mind sharing, what GPA meets the stip?

I've got a stip on my scholarship of top 25% instead of a #. My original scholarship offer was top 50% but I negotiated a higher overall scholarship in exchange for "betting on myself" and having to be in the top 25%.

Just an FYI, that 1L lockstep courses have a maximum median GPA of 3.0 per class.

from the admitted students event, I think the dean said all scholarships (at least mine) has a 3.0 GPA requirements.

Mine was 3.0 stip.

I called today and asked them if there was anything they could do to speed up the process, if they wanted to be a factor in my consideration, they were the last school I applied to that has yet to respond.

I hope so too, for you! I cannot wait till the end of summer to make a decision and then make arrangements where I am headed. TTU dorms are already about gone at this point!

or not. Some file went complete and they got an answer really quick. It might be based on your numbers. The standard seems to be 4-8 weeks.

Mandatory curve for lock step is 3.0

Mandatory curve for lock step is 3.0

Maximum curve for lock step is 3.0. Professors can have a lower curve, but not a higher one without going through a review board process.

Given the ABA information on how many scholarships are reduced or eliminated, I'm being cautious with stips. I was hoping for a stip like SMU where it just says "good standing" aka you don't fail.

Understood. The lower stips are way more comfortable. I actually think A&M's stip was top 25%, but has recently changed to a 3.0.

It's just motivation to work harder, that's how I see it anyways! I find it difficult to get motivated without a fire under me, and a 3.0 stip is a A&M sized bonfire

I came across this thread and thought I would say hi as I have put my first deposit down for a seat in the part time evening program starting this fall of 2014.

I am excited to attend A&M. I struggled with the ranking for awhile but based my decision to attend on the following:

1. It's free. I am a hazelwood student also so tuition will be covered. A&M also offered a scholarship with a 3.0 stip each year as well. It will still be free for me whether I keep up the stip or not. Also, I asked multiple lawyers whether they would pay for SMU or attend A&M for free and each one told me A&M all day.

2. Although A&M may never have be as highly ranked as UT, with the money that they can put into the school, I am confident it will be in the top 100 before I graduate.

3. The reception that I received from A&M when I was accepted was great and felt right. My acceptance was met with excitement and was very welcoming. I was immediately invited to school functions and to sit in on classes. I can get behind this culture.

The only downside to attending will be the commute. My wife and I purchased a home in Plano because it is close to her work and the schools are great for the kids. If I have any soon to be classmates on here, feel free to shoot me a message.

Congratulations !!!- I'll be in the day program, but I imagine we'll still cross paths. I share your reservations regarding the rankings and have concerns about the resulting job prospect differences. The stip is a little more daunting to me without Hazelwood (glad you have that) and I worry about whether the curve may actually be more stringent here than it is at SMU after 1L. (Mike or others- if you have any insight on this, I'd be interested). However, after talking to some successful attorney friends about the options, the consensus was that given the current market, A&M is a logical choice.

Like you, I felt very welcomed and appreciated when I talked to people at A&M. If that culture persists throughout our time there, the quality of life over the next few years will be a great benefit. I got the sense that there would be a lot of student, staff, and faculty support for an individual's endeavors. The institution seems to relish its student's accomplishments. So, I'm all in now. I am really looking forward to it. See you around.

For those of you waitlisted. I was told a list of students was requested by the admissions committee outlining students who have shown continued interest in attending A&M (presumably from those manning the front lines in the admissions office (Emily F, etc.))..and the committee was going to make considerations from that list today and tomorrow. I was told more information would be available Thursday or Friday of this week.

So if you're waitlisted, and you submitted letter(s) of continued interest....with a bit of luck we'll have an answer in the next 48 hours!
