Re: University of Colorado c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014 Cycle)
Ms. Danger, thanks.
Looking for government or mid-size firm. Ideally, I want to focus on environmental law but I realize that it is limited. am open to admin law as well.
I am in at t14's but I'm from Colorado and would be happy to make my life there. Not sure if a free ride is worth it or i'm better off taking debt at a school with more recognition.

I feel confident. I have interned/networked well. I know that a lot of people come to CU Law because they do not know what else to do with themselves but are smart enough to score in the mid 160s on the LSAT. Some of these people end up with jobs, some don't. I'm sure there are a few that seem to make all the right moves and still end up without a full-time job 9 months after graduation. It's really hard to say and the fact is on this website if you even hint that unemployment could be the fault of students you are practically banned by the mods. I'll say that CU is as good of school as any below the top 25 or so, and that if you believe you can't get a job out of schools 26-200+ I cannot share your pessimism.gimmedanger wrote:Lord Randolph McDuff wrote:Congrats. 3L here for any questions you may have. The fact that you have a full-ride and have logged onto a website to discuss your fears of unemployment suggest that you will be fine. As LeDick alluded to, your precise career goals are important. If you want Biglaw (incredibly small market in Denver), Fed Clerk, State Appellate Clerk, you need to be around the top 25% to get much of a look, absent connections. Also LeDick you remain confused about my identity. I believe we are in the same class.

Oh ok. A T-14 will not assist you for DA/PD level government, nor would it help much as the AG's Office as it is loaded with local grads. Depending on your definition of a "mid-size" firm, my advice would vary. Larger firms here are like 30 attorneys and up. For big firms, T-14 or stellar grades/law review is basically a requirement. However, the only environmental firms I know of are in Boulder and Denver and they are small. Like 10 attorneys, many of whom went to CU or DU.gimmedanger wrote:Ms. Danger, thanks.

Something to keep in mind is that recognition is a function of community. In Colorado, CU Law has a ton of recognition in the legal profession. Just like OU Law has a ton of recognition in the legal profession in the state of Oklahoma. Do you know where you would want to live? Because you don't seem to want to work in "Biglaw," I would try to figure that out first.

In fairness though, some of the boutique firms here that are small to medium size firms do hire exclusively from t14. I mean: try to get a job with Reilly Posner or KLN out of CU/DU. Those are the only two I can think of, and might be the only two like that, but they exist here. Generally though, local grads do fine.
Just decide whether you'd prefer the fallback options of a t14 or not. CU doesn't really offer you fallback options whereas a t14 does.

Thanks for your input, Le Dique and Lord Mcduff
I have some thinking to do! We shall see by the end of the cycle what I decide but since I'd like to be working in CO after school, I might end up at CU and working that local recognition.

Here is the website for Reilly Posner that shows all the associates/partners: http://www.rplaw.com/people/LeDique wrote:In fairness though, some of the boutique firms here that are small to medium size firms do hire exclusively from t14. Didn't look at all of them, but on the first row there were 3 CU, 1 DU, 1 random T1, 1 TTT, and 1 Northwestern grad. Haha by the way who are you? Are we friends?

I should have included "straight" but I also think those aren't recent hires either.

Still here for questions. The whole state is in bad spirits after the broncos debacle but I'll try to make myself useful. Fire away about housing, activities, jobs, anything.

Do you think we would have fared better if Tebow were still our quarterback?Lord Randolph McDuff wrote:Still here for questions. The whole state is in bad spirits after the broncos debacle but I'll try to make myself useful. Fire away about housing, activities, jobs, anything.

I don't think so but the guy was magic here. It's very sad and indicative of my future success but Tim Tebow's run is my primary memory from 1L.Cal Trask wrote:Do you think we would have fared better if Tebow were still our quarterback?Lord Randolph McDuff wrote:Still here for questions. The O Line couldn't hold up last night. Peyton is outstanding with an O Line pretty average without.

Good to know it's not just me. I definitely didn't anticipate hitting the three month mark with no word.XO_MissCourtney wrote:Same here. In review since 11/4acreager wrote:In review since 11/4.Attax wrote:12/2 herecsargean wrote:Complete since 12/3... This wait is killing me!!

I've been "in review" since 11/4. I got an email on 12/26 saying they anticipated answers in January, but I still haven't heard anything as of today (2/5). I've been admitted to DU since early December, so the wait for CU is getting old.

Sorry to hear you've been waiting so long, but it does make me feel a bit better. I have been UR since late Nov/early Dec(dont want to out myself), and I was getting worried. Sounds like this is a trend among non auto admits. Perhaps they are waiting on Feb scores?Miah586 wrote:I've been "in review" since 11/4. I think I'm on the cusp, perhaps on an unofficial wait-list. Looking back in this thread, lots of denials went out on 1/22, so I guess it's good that I'm still in the running.

Congrats though! CU may not be T-14 but the location doesn't get much better!

Just received scholly $$$. Full ride for the first year and some assistance for the remaining years. That's kind of weird. Usually schools space out the $$$ evenly throughout the three years, but at least there are no sTTTTips on this scholarship.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
