Re: University of Illinois UIUC c/o '17 Applicants (13-14 cycle)
Do you guys think Illinois will regain its top 25ish status in the near future? I know that scandal knocked them down the rankings pretty hard but I haven't seen any speculation as to what their future holds.
Their biglaw numbers are better than most schools between their current ranking and the T-14.

Thanks for the link! Seems like this may be a golden window for applicants to gain an acceptance and/or money that they normally would not have received.

I'm sure they'll be climbing over the coming years, but it's hard to say how much. With the high $$ schollys they're throwing out and impressive biglaw numbers, they may be able to retain/strengthen medians while most will likely continue to see their medians drop, at least in the short term. I have a feeling they have a good shot at increasing their rank at least a few places each year. They're throwing out scholly $$ similar to their T40-50 peers but with biglaw employment data worthy of T25.Nucky wrote:Do you guys think Illinois will regain its top 25ish status in the near future? Well, if nothing else, there is a Cracker Barrel close to the school. What else could you want?

Yep got that email today as well, good to see that the school is still performing well aside from the USNews rankings dropDitka747 wrote:Nucky wrote:Do you guys think Illinois will regain its top 25ish status in the near future? I do not really think they will climb up to T25 recently. Biglaw is not enough to get the higher ranking, see Fordham. They have to do something for the medians. However, I am sure they deserve the T25. This year, they may get a 30~35.Nucky wrote:Do you guys think Illinois will regain its top 25ish status in the near future? Finally. In, and with decent $. $23,000/year. Not enough to get me to attend, but a good start.

I agree that the data might not be enough to bring the school back to T25-ish, but I conversely don't think there's much room to fall, especially with the somewhat-promising employment data. The sentiment around here (at least with 3Ls, the class to experience both big drops) is that the first drop was in response to the scandal, but that the second drop was more punitive than anything.pagenotfound wrote:I do not really think they will climb up to T25 recently. My feeling has always been that until this starts to affect employment numbers, the rankings drop is almost irrelevant. That shouldn't be the most important factor in your decision to attend.

What's your GPA? Resident or non-resident?Attax wrote:Finally. In, and with decent $. $23,000/year. Not enough to get me to attend, but a good start.
A resident classmate of mine was able to negotiate 75% with similar numbers.

Was invited to RSVP for an ASD when they visit the closest city to me, so I did so. Excited to learn more about the school.

I thought the second drop had to do with bad employment numbers from 2011. The first drop was "punitive", if either were, because that was where the academic reputation rating took a big hit. Correct me if my understanding is wrong.

In this week with decently high 25k/year offer. Stats a bit above both medians. In-state. Went there for undergrad.. not really sure about going back, but it's a good option.

You'll be able to easily negotiate that up if you want.sue4398 wrote:In this week with decently high 25k/year offer. Stats a bit above both medians. In-state. Went there for undergrad.. not really sure about going back, but it's a good option.

Oh yeah, you should have waited a bit. I'm sure they really want those above the medians, though, so you can probably cop another round of negotiations a bit later on.bigfeature wrote:A week has passed and I havn't heard anything from the school about the negotiation.Ricky-Bobby wrote:You'll be able to easily negotiate that up if you want.sue4398 wrote:In this week with decently high 25k/year offer. I agree. 2011's employment data is terrible.Volake wrote:I thought the second drop had to do with bad employment numbers from 2011. The first drop was "punitive", if either were, because that was where the academic reputation rating took a big hit. Correct me if my understanding is wrong.

I hope so. So is the consensus to wait another few weeks until starting negotiations? I feel kind of like an ass calling (emailing?) them a week or two after getting my initial offer and asking for more. I'd like to wait to hear back from my last few schools, but I'm starting to get impatient.

Re: University of Illinois UIUC c/o '17 Applicants (13-14 cycle)
2011 employment stats are bad for every school , so the drop was probably a combination of the two, but UIUC dropped much further relative to its peers, like ND and WUSTL.pagenotfound wrote:I agree. 2011's employment data is terrible.Volake wrote:I thought the second drop had to do with bad employment numbers from 2011. Anyway, you shouldn't be basing your decision largely due to the rankings.

I'll give it a shot, given my LSAT. UIUC would be great for negotiating against WUSTL I'd assume.Ricky-Bobby wrote:Oh yeah, you should have waited a bit.
