I got a PT invite after christmas with absolutely zero indication I would attend. I wasnt even considering applying before I got it. I actually think they hope to win over a few applicants with priority track for whom Duke would previously have NOT been their top consideration. So it may be a mix of targeting likely attenders per Dre's suggestion, and shots in the dark to an assortment of normally CCN-bound students who will then receive generous financial aid and a bombardement of souther hospitality with the calculated prayer that the relative ease of the app process and painless finaid + novel appeal of the school will yield a few 75ths+ candidates

Well, I got my fee waiver today after e-mailing admissions. I'd love a PT invite, but a fee waiver's enough to keep me happy. I can't afford to spend $1000+ on applications.

ED invite and fee waiver with a 163/3.83. The turnaround time is 10 days and admits get a $30,000 ED grant. Does anyone know anything about the binding ED vs PT. Or any idea why they'd invite someone with an LSAT below the 25th??

Planning to apply ED at the moment, though I know to expect a rejection.

ED is binding. They probably mass-mailed the ED invites to anyone over Median on either GPA or LSAT.

PT isn't binding, its just a quick turnaround of the application process.

I got a message to that effect on LSAC, too, and I'm signed up for PT. My guess is that they don't want to start on the 10-day-turnaround grind before Labor Day?

Perhaps a silly question, but could not writing a "Why Duke" essay potentially hurt scholarship chances? I am in the process of writing it now but I'm not sure how compelling it will be. I am applying via PT.

I can't give a really informed answer, but I would be surprised if a Why X essay influenced scholarships. It makes sense to impact admissions, but once they accept you, they've decided they want you in the class. If anything, wouldn't they think that you'd likely need MORE money to choose to attend?
