Yes, it's unfortunate that this time of year is not a good time to chat with current students. I guess we'll have to settle for checking out the campus/general vibe and trying to convince current students we know to meet up.
Do you think it's worth it to let the admissions office know if we decide to visit?

That's part of it, but I think it's also to make sure you like the school in case you are offered a spot in the class. I've heard of people who have been offered admission in August or September and they pretty much have to make a snap decision. It's easier to make a more informed decision if you've at least visited the school and talked to current students.toothbrush wrote:Isn't that the point of going? What do we ask students? Honestly? I've been on TLS a year and have read through 80 pages of "ask of hls student"...arrggg wrote:That's part of it, but I think it's also to make sure you like the school in case you are offered a spot in the class. Am I supposed to fake questions to act interested?

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2013
So what are some guesses for the total amount of people on the WL? I imagine a significant amount of people who are applying to H are at least lurking on TLS and (hopefully) have added to the spreadsheet.

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2013
I feel like seeing students in the actual Harvard environment can offer more insight into student life there than asking questions on TLS, although TLS has been incredibly helpful. Sometimes you just get a gut feeling about a place when you visit. I really love NYU and I want to make sure I love Harvard just as much or more when I visit so that I can feel confident about my decision to enroll there if I miraculously get off the waitlist.

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2013
There's probably some selection bias in terms of the types of HLS students who are active on TLS and willing to answer your questions. Perhaps you get to see some more perspectives by visiting. As someone who hasn't pored through the ask a hls student thread, I know I would want to talk to students if I were to visit. I wouldn't fake interest, so if you're 100% set on HLS, then your only reason for visiting might be to show interest.toothbrush wrote:What do we ask students? Honestly? Then again, Boston's not too far for me, and I have friends that I can crash with so it's not a huge investment.

Yeah, I'm kind of in the same boat -- heading up to Cambridge for a bit would be pretty easy. I guess showing interest is a good idea. Do you just email the admissions office and tell them you're visiting? I'm guessing there's no chance of actually getting to meet admissions officers?

I plan to email them that I'm coming. I DOUBT they will meet with us for many reasons, one being that they don't want everyone to start visiting just to meet with themchickpea wrote:Yeah, I'm kind of in the same boat -- heading up to Cambridge for a bit would be pretty easy. But yeah, def email and peek around. Sadly, I self-visited HLS a while ago to check it out. It's pretty amazing. I do like NYU more myself but I have to get in there first =x

I'm rooting for you to get into NYU as well! Maybe we'll end up being classmates there if H doesn't work out.

Finally got the wait list confirmation
They were also very nice & kind mentioning that they're aware of potential visa-related complications for internationals and will keep this in mind, heh. Waiting time now!

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2013
Perhaps this is a stupid question, but is this a JS1, or did everyone on the waitlist get this email?
Dear xxxxxxxx,
Thank you for your interest in Harvard Law School. As we review our wait list, we would like to offer you the opportunity to have a video interview with a member of the HLS admissions staff.
Skype is the technology we use to conduct interviews. Our expectation is that Skype likely will be used for the majority of the interviews we conduct. If there is a reason (such as a disability or being in a geographic location where Skype is not available) that video-enabled Skype will not work for you, we will work with you to find an alternative.
More information about the interview can be found on our blog here: http://blogs.law.harvard.edu/admissions ... g-process/
If you do not already have Skype, please download it here: http://www.skype.com
We have found that the technology works best when using an external microphone with a computer. Additionally, using a handheld device is suitable for the interview. Either way, we ask that you test whatever device you plan to use for the interview before your appointment.
Please sign up for a twenty-minute interview slot here: (interview link here)
In order to sign up for an interview time slot you must provide the following information:
First and Last Names
LSAC #
Skype Account Name
Current Phone Number (as a back-up to Skype)
If you have any questions about scheduling your interview, please contact the J.D. Admissions Office by responding to this email.
We look forward to our upcoming conversation.
Sincerely,
J.D. Admissions
