Hmm, alright. I don't see how my application would have any influence over his, but maybe he thinks that if HYS has more applicants with above median LSAT's but below median GPA's, they are more likely to balance things out with above or at median GPAs even if the LSAT's are at or below medians.alwayssunnyinfl wrote:I guess his app is that bland and uninteresting that he's afraid of not getting into HYS even though he has the numbers to make him a lock.yankihote wrote:Why's that if I may ask?bernaldiaz wrote:

No, he really is set numbers-wise. If he doesn't get one of HYS, it won't be for want of better numbers.yankihote wrote: Hmm, alright. But I don't know his personal story, so I'm not going to pass any more judgment. I was just speculating.

Word. I'm getting tired of watching him and the 3.95/178 stroke each other's egos off up and down TLS. Maybe I just mad, who knows?alwayssunnyinfl wrote:No, he really is set numbers-wise. Also, checking in. Chicago would be great but it's a super duper longshot at this point.

Don't let it get you down. Think of it this way: If the top schools get their 4.0/180 or close acceptances out of the way, they will have more room to offer admission to others with below median numbers. There is some talk that the applicant pool is smaller/less number-maxed, which if true would bode well for you.

Good luck to all of you. I'm a 1L and love it so far (although classes haven't started). I lurked for quite a while and got so much great advice, so I'm happy to answer any questions y'all have about the school, etc.
FWIW, I was a splitter way under the GPA 25% and at median for LSAT. It can be done with a good application.

From the look of class sizes and numbers, Chicago looks at least as difficult to get into as Columbia, if not more difficult.
What, with 25% of the class having a 3.96+ GPA and 50% having a 3.9+.

Just a heads up to anybody still waiting on a fee waiver. I did not get one in the first batch but checked again this morning and noticed a hidden fee waiver waiting for me (it was not there as of last week). It looks like maybe with the new month they released some more waivers for students still waiting to apply.

Re: Chicago c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
Last year I (and several others) predicted that Chicago would overtake Columbia in the rankings. That did not materialize, but it could still happen this year.
(1) Chicago's GPA median inched up from a 3.87,
(2) Expenditures/student will increase due to the Ruby and a lower class size (maybe more "scholarship" money too, judging by the end of the previous cycle)
(3) At least one major new lateral (Eduardo Penalver).
(4) Columbia and Chicago have the same peer and lawyer/judge scores and differ by only a point in raw scores (94 and 93, respectively), so luck could play a role too.
Note that Columbia also saw a huge reduction in class size (close to 10%), so that might cancel out Chicago's advantages this year. The only reason you should care is because applicants do respond to rankings and a shift could change the way the waitlist plays out.

Hey, I noticed something funny. In my status checker, there's a new line under the Applicant Fee which says "class deposit"...0.00... .00 Is this just something that happens when you go complete? I was already complete for some time...
