Any insight into the strange duckweb financial aid message? See my post above... I am bored at work, needing some law school admissions conspiracy conversation.

Anyone else seriously considering depositing at Oregon soon? Sending mine in within the next couple days I believe.

I have heard nothing from Oregon. Nothing except an email in early March to give me a Duck ID number.

Definitely leaning towards Oregon but Seattle U is still in the running. Will most likely become a Duck this Fall but if L&C grants my merit aid request next month, that will be a tough call.
And I'll be at Oregon's ASD on the 7th!

Any others from out of state worried about the insular Portland market (assuming Portland is your target market)?
I've heard from others on the forum that even getting a JD from UO wouldn't be enough to "establish significant ties to the Portland area" and that firms would be hesitant to offer you employment.

Portland would be the only place for me in Oregon.
If UO places 60+% of the class at graduation, where the hell do they practice? Salem? Portland seems like the only real legal market in the whole damn state.

Students from UO practice all over the state including Portland. It's not like Eugene is an isolated island. . .

No, I'm pretty sure it is.

If you mean an isolated island surrounded by beauty and nature and adventure and opportunity (but less of that than the others), then yes, yes it is. Lol.

Hey DCDUCK,
How strong are UO's ties to Cali, specifically the Bay Area. I am interested in moving back to my home state after completing school, but I can't pass up on UO's programs.

I have a thread in the "Ask a Law Student" thread, and I would prefer to answer questions there. I might have already answered this question there, also, but if not, If you re-ask there, I'll answer!

Tonight around 8pm, got my "Welcome to UO Law Class of 2015" email from a 1L. I live in Eugene and UO was my first and only choice, so that was quite a relief!

I hate not having a checker for Oregon. One of my last schools that I am awaiting word from, and I have to resort to stalking the mailman.

Has anyone been successful scholarship-wise? I am OOS, and if I could get them to send 10k my way, I would put OR under serious consideration. I've been offered as much from other schools.

It does seem odd that you didn't get any $... I would guess there is not much chance for scholarship negotiation though. Speaking from experience, UO does not play the money game. Being a public school, there is not an enormous amount to go around. They seem more committed to using it to reward academic merit (especially gpa) rather than as incentive for undecided applicants. In my case: I sold out and told them I would attend if accepted, notwithstanding any monetary incentive. I got $8k/year anyway. Plus, most of the applicants on this forum who have tried to negotiate have been denied...ashen wrote:Im surprised you didn't get any money as your numbers are better than mine.Prospecta8571 wrote:Has anyone been successful scholarship-wise?
