My question was about sections not scholarships. Im not concerned with section-stacking. I like the concept of sections and having the same classes with the same students. I'm a bit surprised they don't have sections.

I just got back my December LSAT score and it was a 167. Was hoping to receive a fee waiver from Tulane because it's one of my top choices. I also want to apply ASAP but would like the fee waiver. I emailed admissions and they said they run the CRS searches weekly. Would a 3.47 167 get a fee waiver normally?

Also, can anyone comment on the sports law progra? How it is? And you're ability to interact with a Gabe Feldman for example.

Check out LSN. I saw some folks with your numbers who received fee waivers, but I'm not sure if applying later in the cycle makes a difference; for scholarships, sure, but for fee waivers, I doubt it. You will probably have to solicit them.

Aberzombie, if you're still reading this thread, was your section stacked with other students with scholarships or was it mixed? Nevermind, I forgot Tulane doesn't have sections!

Tulane doesn't have sections? Not sure how I didn't notice that. My understanding has always been that most schools have sections. Is this not the case?

Over 80% of Tulane's students are on some form of scholarship. As a result, the vast majority of people in any set of classes will be on some form of scholarship. So in theory, it would impossible for Tulane to section stack - especially since students now only have to be in the top ~80% to keep their scholarships.

As a current student how do you think not having a section affects the student body? I imagine it also makes it more difficult to create study groups and share outlines, if that ever occurs.

I was pretty pumped about Tulane when I applied, but now that I'm being realistic and wanting to have a future career in Illinois, I just don't know if Tulane is the right fit for me. Oh well, wait for my cycle to finish then i'll decide

If I get into Tulane, it would be my top choice out of all of the schools I applied to. But then again, I am pretty sure that I want to practice in Louisiana. We will see what happens though.

Are you a Louisiana resident? If so, why not LSU?

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love LSU, it's where I went for undergrad, but I'm kinda ready for a change at this point. I have been living in BR for the past 6 years and I'm not a huge fan. Plus Tulane is obviously ranked higher and considered a better school. But at the same time, I've already been accepted to LSU and the tuition is much much much cheaper than Tulane. Right now I think I want to practice in Louisiana, but I am not 100% sure, so I guess that is why Tulane is my #1 choice right now (If I'm accepted).

I did call Tulane the other day. They said that they won't change your status until your decision is rendered and that it isn't any indication of where your application is.

Not directed to me, but I'll give my unsolicited opinion anyway:

I think, if anything, it affects the student body positively. We aren't in sections, but there's a lot of overlap with who's in your classes. Most people I have 3 out of my 4 doctrinal classes with. This leaves some room for people in your classes you maybe wouldn't otherwise see. Most people who form study groups form different ones based on each specific class, not one group for all classes. It gives you a chance to be exposed to different people and their ways of thinking.

I think, if anything, it affects the student body positively. We aren't in sections, but there's a lot of overlap with who's in your classes. Most people I have 3 out of my 4 doctrinal classes with. I actually did the opposite and found the 4 or 5 people that had the same schedule I had and studied with them for all of my classes for efficiency sake so that is still possible if you want to study with the same group. Also, building on Mr. Brad Pitt's insight, I think the lack of sections contributes to a less competitive atmosphere because students aren't competing for grades within one group of people.

Also, I sent in my application on Thursday and still haven't gotten an e-mail acknowledging my application yet. Does Tulane take longer than other schools for that? I know I'm being impatient.

From my experience thus far, it seems that significantly more people are interested in and study sports law than actually get any type of sports law job. My impression is, similar to entertainment law prospects, that its a tough nut to crack. So if you're only interested in Tulane for sports law and are debating between Tulane and a higher ranked school, I might pick the higher ranked school. However, if you like Tulane for other reasons and the sports law program is one of many advantages that you value, Tulane is a unique law school in a great city and I would encourage you to matriculate here.
