I have a question about the letters of rec for the application. In the instructions, it says that for those who are working full-time a letter from a supervisor is required, and may replace a faculty letter. I've had two jobs since i graduated last spring, and in the recent one i've had multiple supervisors. This feels like a stupid question, but I think I'm better represented by my faculty letters and would prefer to just submit those (I feel like my current job isn't particularly impressive), but given that it is a requirement, it seems like it'd be dumb to just submit faculty letters. Anyone care to comment/in a similar situation? Thanks so much.

I'm in a similar situation in that I don't like my current job and doubt I will get a stellar reference. Since it says required, though, I think it would be wrong not to include one. It would definitely hurt you more than a mediocre LOR, I think.

Personally, I just gave my supervisor a ton of information that I thought would be helpful to him in writing the PS. I'm hoping for the best

I don't think I will send my work reference to most schools... I haven't totally decided on that yet. I doubt it will be an excellent letter, so my gut says only send it if they require it.

Ah gotcha, I think my letter would be fine, but I'm also unsure of what the job would really reveal about me. Since it is required though I guess I'll just have to hope it works out. Are you planning on submitting it along with two faculty LORs? I figure at least in this instance three letters would be ok, since I think my letters would represent me well.

Yea I'm definitely sending in my 2 faculty LORs in addition. I think both of those will be great and more representative of my potential. I don't think 3 LORs is ever unreasonable, though.

Whoops. I overlooked this requirement prior to applying. I read the instructions on the first few applications, but stopped reading after I realized all the information was relatively generic and straightforward. Apparently, that was a mistake. However, I've only been working full-time since August. Wouldn't it be a little bizarre to ask someone to write you a recommendation letter when you've only known them for 10 weeks?

If it wasn't for this post, I would not have caught that. Wow. I guess not reading all the directions can indeed be a mistake even in something as simple as a stupid law school app.

Does anyone know whether Columbia will do another round of fee waivers when the Oct. scores come out? I'm not sure why they'd give me one then when they didn't the first time, but I can hope!
