Re: Splitters unite! 2011-2012 Cycle
There are some URM students who are admitted to schools where there numbers would suggest that they would be rejected. Schools are typically more lenient towards lower lsat scores than low GPAs. There isn't an exact since how this "boost" works, which makes it hard to predict. Splitter cycles are also unpredictable so when you have an URM splitter, it's very difficult to determine how their cycle will turn out, especially if they are extreme splitters.MormonChristian wrote:Can you elaborate?Master_Splinter wrote:any splitter cycle is hard to predict but URM splitter cycles especially. 3.3, 173, accepted to Michigan ($$), Georgetown, Fordham, WashU, and was just accepted to NYU ED. I feel like I pretty much got as lucky as I could've gotten; hopefully all my fellow splitters fare as well!

Nice job. It seems like 3.3 is the magic number for non URM splitters. Anecdotally, it seems like t14 prospects fall off quite a bit beneath the 3.3 mark, and then plummet into a ravine below 3.0.hdsoc wrote:3.3, 173, accepted to Michigan ($$), Georgetown, Fordham, WashU, and was just accepted to NYU ED. Checking in:
3.25, 176
Submitted after thanksgiving and the wait is killing me, especially knowing I probs won't hear anything till early Feb. On the bright side if finals go according to plan I should be able to bump up my UGPA to a 3.3X and have that submitted before I go UR.

yeah it seems like general cutoffs are about 3.7, 3.5, 3.3, and 3.0Lurkster wrote:Nice job. It seems like 3.3 is the magic number for non URM splitters. basically the lowest gpa a school will accept (minorities not necessarily included). These aren't always hard and fast, but a lot of schools have general numbers they won't dip below.reaganing wrote:sorry, new to boards... what are these cutoffs for?JamMasterJ wrote:Lurkster wrote:

So basically, if GPA is below those numbers, throw Law School Predictor results away?reaganing wrote:basically the lowest gpa a school will accept (minorities not necessarily included). These aren't always hard and fast, but a lot of schools have general numbers they won't dip below.
Since most schools do not seem to report their full GPA range, it seems silly to have a GPA floor, unless low ugrad GPA is correlated with low LS GPA, even for big splitters. I wonder if that's the case...

Re: Splitters unite! 2011-2012 Cycle
First time checking in on this thread.
3.25-179, so I think I have dem massive splitter credentials.
CCN, MVP, Vandy, Wash U, UCLA, and Irvine.
So far I've heard nothing back, but I'm hoping its because I've been pretty obvious on LSN and here that I'm EDing to Chicago, so other schools will just wait to hear whether I'm in there. And it's not really that hard for ad counselors to figure out who I am.
Basically applied only to schools I know I'd be happy to attend. Living in China made me a lot more comfortable with NYC, I figure if I can handle Beijing, I can handle NYC.
I know I should be applying to more schools, but I feel fairly confident I can make it into at least one of these schools, and the range is already broad enough for scholly negotiation. I just knew that schools like Cornell and Gtown just wouldn't fit me.
Good luck to everybody! Hopefully I'll have good news from Chicago next week.

Wow awesome LSAT! super jealous
So after this semester I'll have a 3.02 LSAC GPA and my LSAT = 170 . This semester I'm gonna finish with a 4.0 in 15 hours so I hope that will look good when iupdate my transcript. Also URM. Applied to Columbia, Harvard (why not), Penn, Berkeley, UVA, Gtown, Northwestern, Cornell, UCLA, WashU, IndianaBloomington, OU and LSU. Currently waitlisted at UVA, and Georgetown interviewed me but besides that I haven't heard a peep from anyone. Good luck to everyone! I hope the strange year bodes well for us splitters

Yeah I've had mixed reactions so far. 3.1/167.
In at UMD and GMU
Out at UT, UVA, and GULC (ED)
WL at GWU and Fordham
I haven't heard anything this week besides a follow-up phone call, but perhaps I will. I'm also IP, but I don't know if that affects admissions at all.
