I just got an admit email from Columbia this afternoon!
Submitted back on 12/3/10 and was WLed 2/8/11. There is hope for WLs so stay strong!

not sure about GULC but I've heard they waitlist almost everyone at Virginia.

I know exactly what you mean. I've got some great options, but it's hard to choose one of them when my heart's not really that into it.

I'm in waitlist hell too..on 3 WL. It doesn't seem like much, but two of them are my top two schools. That makes it hurt.

I can't decide if I think WL is the least desirable outcome.

On one side, it doesn't allow you to move on and choose another school. Staying on a WL requires a deposit at a backup school or the backup plan of waiting a year. It delays your decision.

On the other side, a WL feels a little better on the ego, and there's a slight glimmer of hope.

I'm on three WL's and one hold. Don't see how you can think a WL is the least desirable outcome or "Hell". At the very least it means you still have a chance and, in my mind, continues to be preferable to an outright rejection. Not knowing is not the easiest thing to deal with, but it is important to place it in perspective.

Thanks for writing this!! You're so right, there is still hope. And it's not over. I've been rejected to two of my top schools, and in the back of my mind I still think about those schools. The outcome is final, there is no hope. There is no wait and see. The opportunities to further tango with those schools are over!
However, I did receive 5 waitlists and two are from schools that I so want to attend...it's not over...not yet anyways.

At this point I'm just laughing at these TTTs WLing me b/c I already got into my reach! My scores aren't high enough to be YPed at these schools either.
