i am very excited to go to msu's open house. still havent decided on a weekend, so i havent asked for a stipend. im looking at a 8 hour drive, and will be there for a few days, so hopefully ill get one. Its definately at the top of my list, although I wont be making a final decision until i hear from all schools- but as of right now, its number one.

I also got the confirmation why msu essay within a few hours of sending it. I got the acceptance email a week or so later from that date. It didnt tell me how much of a scholarship i got on line, only in the packet.

I just called the admissions office -- turns out today is the only day they're open between Christmastime and New Years, so anything that was sent to them in the last week is being processed today. The committee meets again starting next week.

has anyone applied for the stipend assistant for the visit program? I just submitted for the March 3rd date and submitted for the max amount (450).. any idea what they base their decisions on? (ie distance, financial need, scholarship recipients?)

I applied for the $450 stipend and was approved of it the next day. I'll be flying from California, so getting the stipend was huge for me. I'm most likely flying into Detroit since it's a lot cheaper than flying into Lansing.

12/23: I submit my requested "Why MSU" essay
12/30: I call and ask if they've received it; they say yes.
12/30, later that day: My status checker changes to "File incomplete- awaiting scholarship statement."

I am somewhat less than amused.

poster above. It happend to me as well. Be patient. MSU's offices were closed last week. They will update your information, and you should have a response in about 2 weeks or less. ( IT took me 2 weeks from the date I emailed the essay to getting a scholarship offer. ) Since last week was a holiday week, it may take an extra week to find out. You should have an offer by the end of the month at the very latest.

You're right. I'm just over-stressing right now (imagine that). MSU has been really great throughout this whole process.

Its perfectly allright. Im waiting for a couple more (5)schools to make decisions/ offers before I make a preliminary rankings and try to schedule visits. MSU is a lock for the top 5, and one I will definately be strongly considering, but I want to just get this process over and done with.

After you file your fasfa, is there anything else that needs to be done before you know what your loans will be? Its been a while since ive done this, and ive totally forgotten the process.

Does anyone know if you can change ASD's once you chose one? Im still waiting to hear from other places, and have a date tentatively picked out, but would like to konw if i can change before I tell them.

And in regards to your loan question...no idea, but would love an answer as well. I was fortunate enough to have a full scholarship for undergrad and am clueless about the loan process.

For that, I think you should have to figure it out on your own. But since I've had so much experience, I can't help but offer: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/, there is no way to know how much you will be awarded until you are awarded. Your fafsa is all you need to do for federal loans, it will prompt you for all the information necessary, including the school code for the school you will be attending in the fall.

Can finally post in this thread. I got the acceptance call today, 75% tuition scholarship plus a "one time award". I'm a little confused though, I couldn't decipher from the voicemail how much it was for, did anyone receive this?

WOHOOO!!! I finally got the long awaited call- I GOT IN!!!! I've been waiting forever and now I'm so excited! I called the Admissions Office they said my official acceptance package is being mailed out next week

I actually had the opportunity to visit MSU back in November, its a beautiful campus! When I went school was basically out so I didnt get to see any students.


Can someone post a list of tentative Accepted Student Day dates? I was hoping to head out again before making a final decision and since I'm coming from California booking early will be a lot cheaper.

Got the call today. In with a 25% scholarship. Went complete right before Thanksgiving. They asked me to write the 'Why MSU' essay, and I went back to complete on December 17th. It seems like MSU is a school on the rise, and I'm very excited to have finally heard from them.
