I'm just basing this on the self reported numbers here from last year in the school profile. It seemed like people with my numbers were getting about 20k a year, I don't think it matters in or out of state. yeah that pretty much takes care of tuition. I got my big blue folder, but no scholarship info or deposit info yet.Capitol A wrote:Did you notice if that $60k total was for in v. out of state? HMMM....Interesting...I would think in v. out of state would make a significant difference. I've seen someone on TLS from out of state say that they got $30k for their first year. That would be more than full tuition for in state.mala2 wrote:I'm just basing this on the self reported numbers here from last year in the school profile. I'm 165/3.6, in state, and I got $20k for 1L, $15k for 2L, nothing for 3L. If tuition stays stable (which I doubt it will), this would be enough to make me attend, even though I had already settled on W&M. That's why I was asking about their negotiation. I feel like I need just a little bit of money for 3L or at least some assurance that I won't be paying $35k for my third year.

sorry I got off course and was talking about U of A. I haven't heard back from ASU yet (applied Feb1) I have similar numbers to you. It does look like what you got (declining every year) is pretty standard for ASU. You could always try to negotiate, if you tell them you'll definitely go if they can give you x that might work.Capitol A wrote:HMMM....Interesting...I would think in v. out of state would make a significant difference. Didn't realize you were talking about North Mexico State (sorry-ASU undergrad here). I sent an email pleading my case for more $, but if they handle that like they do apps, I think I'll be waiting a while.mala2 wrote:sorry I got off course and was talking about U of A. Edit: I think I was confused because I thought UofA would give their scholarship offers in pesos.

If you have success let me know! 165/3.92 full tuition 1L, 20k 2L, and NOTHING 3L.Capitol A wrote:HMMM....Interesting...I would think in v. out of state would make a significant difference. So you don't pay boatloads of interest on loans from your first year or two. It's saving you money in the long run and actually quite smart.

I guess, it just seems tricky of them to lure you in with such a big number and then follow it with a big 0

I don't think that's their reason. I think their reason is to help recruiting. And your assumption rests on the idea that most/all law students take out loans that are unsubsidized. Maybe that's true, maybe not. I'm not going to be taking out any unsubsidized loans, so this set up would not save me tons of money.

Actually, this is true. By front loading the scholarship, getting a job will help alleviate the financial burden. SA gigs in Phoenix are around $1500-$2000 a week.TommyK wrote:I like it better than a 20k/yr. Would like it even more for 30k/yr for first 2 and nothing for the third year. Anything I can do to postpone debt is a positive thing. Also, there's always a chance you get a a sweet SA which will pay for your third year.mepg wrote:Congratulations to everyone who been accepted so far! The way the scholarships are allotted is strange. They do it that way because of funding and how they set the budget, which I still don't quite understand.

You have nothing to lose by negotiating. The admissions staff is very nice. I do know of someone who successfully negotiated, so it can be done.Capitol A wrote:Did you notice if that $60k total was for in v. out of state? Also, for some reason, their funding is just set up that way. I don't think they are trying to be sneaky with recruiting but just have a budget that centers around 2 years of scholarships, as opposed to 3.

Does anybody have their packet nearby and mind telling me when ASU's ASW is? I'm trying to coordinate it with a trip to U of A's ASW, but I don't know if they are remotely close to each other.

I'm actually kind of mad about it.. I don't understand why a law school would have ASD that late. I really want to check out the school but all other schools I'm considering have scholarship deadlines on April 1, meaning I have to make my decision before ASU's ASD. Seems really dumb that they do that.

+1. Fortunately I live in Phoenix, so I'll be visiting ASU tomorrow; but you're right, if I want to attend ASDs before making my final decision I will have to deposit at more than one school. In the grand scheme of things $500 isn't all that much money-but that does not mean I'm willing to waste it. Hopefully this visit on Friday will help me finally make a decision and go with it.hurricane10 wrote:I'm actually kind of mad about it.. I don't understand why a law school would have ASD that late. Anyone know if it's possible to negotiate scholarship money with Arizona State?
I'd really like to go to ASU, but with my current scholly, it's not looking feasible.

I hope so, because I'm in the process of attempting. I have heard that is possible but not probable.athenian wrote:Anyone know if it's possible to negotiate scholarship money with Arizona State?
