Did anyone else get their acceptance package in the mail today? Everything looks pretty nice.

I shall be withdrawing soon to give my spot available to somebody.
Pretty disappointing to get Illinois and Indiana for free and Maryland doesn't throw me a cent. No money= no thanks.
Good luck to everyone! Is the next Rhonda Pearlman in this room?

Are all scholarship offers alrerady out or is there more coming? I got the admission package today and there is no mention of scolly. I know some people got invited for interviews for scolarships. If you don't get invited for the interview does that mean no money?

I heard their ASD is on a Saturday (mar 26). Since it's not too far from me, I may go to that and see in advance if I can get some scholarship money. I was at their chat the other day and they couldn't seem to answer if it was possible to get in-state for 2 and 3L, which would obviously make a difference.

Oh you did their chat? I thought about doing that--how was it?snapdragon wrote:I heard their ASD is on a Saturday (mar 26). Also, if I couldn't get in-state for 2L and 3L I personally would not go.

Re: Maryland 2011 Applicants
That's a huge reason why I'm withdrawing. I've read that they only give out one scholarship and if you didn't get it in acceptance letter then you're SOL. It's suicide to pay sticker for a low T1 in this economy etc etc...you get the picture.DeeCee wrote:May I ask why? I got a congratulatory phone call from my dream/super reach school on Wednesday. That also has something to do with my decision to withdraw.

The chat was so-so. I was only there for a few minutes. They referred all questions about fin aid and residency to the registrar / fin aid offices. They said that scholarships may be released on a rolling basis. It wasn't really that informative, to be honest.DeeCee wrote:Oh you did their chat? I need to call reg on Monday and see about in-state and / or try to negotiate some of my scholarships. I like MD's location, I'd like to live in the MD/VA/DC area so it might be worth trying to get some $$

Re: Maryland 2011 Applicants
That's lame that the chat went the way it did. I applied there because I really liked American, but it is very expensive and I was hoping for a cheaper choice, regionally. I like the Admissions people, they're pretty nice and I met with them once. However, I don't know much about Baltimore but I'm not really comfortable with Baltimore's rep for crime and I really need to check out the school location during the day and night before making a decision.snapdragon wrote:The chat was so-so. Does anyone know if there is a preferred waitlist this year? For full and/or part time? Any insight into how many people get waitlisted at Maryland/ historically how many come off?

Re: Maryland 2011 Applicants
Not sure about this year but I know they had it last year and notified you with a special letter, and from what I heard most people on the preferred wait list got in. As far as the regular wait list I'm not so sure although I've talked to a bunch of people who got in off it so dont feel like its a lost cause.SCJD2014 wrote:Does anyone know if there is a preferred waitlist this year? Thanks! I'm planning a visit to Baltimore in April to meet with admissions in person and sending in an extra letter of recommendation and a LOCI. Fingers crossed!eastcoaster09 wrote:Not sure about this year but I know they had it last year and notified you with a special letter, and from what I heard most people on the preferred wait list got in. Nope. There was a chat for those who got the scholarship interview letter and they said that they are the only merit-based scholarships they give.Capitol A wrote:Is there anyone who has heard anything different than this?ran12 wrote:pretty much. i think there's a small grant for instatezdayar wrote:Are all scholarship offers alrerady out or is there more coming? There is a preferred waitlist this year. I know someone who is on it.
from what I've heard from a pre law advisor in the MD area is UMD will call up to 10 people in a day come June after the second deposit is due to get people in off the waitlist and fill any extra seats that are vacant, usually starting with the preferred. They'll give a quick yes or no response period for students to submit a deposit, usually a week tops.
After the callings in june to replace students who didn't reserve a seat via the second deposit its basically a one in one out until first day of classes. Also after those june callings they will probably send notification that they are purging the remaining students on the waitlist and to contact admissions if you will to stay on (once its at the one in one out period).
Hope this helps, I'm also on the waitlist, for the part time program, hope to see you in august.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
