Re: American University 2011 Applicants
Has anyone who wasn't been granted an LSAC fee waiver, gotten an app. fee waiver from American? Their website says LSAC is the only way, but just wondering. Thanks.

To those who has been completed, do you think/know if the status checker will go to something else before decisions are out like in review or something along that line?

I think it changes to your decision once it's made.tea_drinker wrote:To those who has been completed, do you think/know if the status checker will go to something else before decisions are out like in review or something along that line?

Thanks ran and queen. I was hoping the status checker would go to "in review" before decisions are made, so I can prepare myself mentally.queenlizzie13 wrote:I think so too. my status says application complete, but along the top of the page it says that my application is complete is being reviewed by the admissions committee. Yours might say the same thing!

Ditto. I should've gotten in based on my numbers already but haven't heard anything and I applied early and completed really fast.HeavenWood wrote:Lower AND higher numbers.jarofsoup wrote:Do you think lower numbers will have to wait past Jan. for a descion?

Re: American University 2011 Applicants
Well this makes no sense: check out American's cycle from last year on LSN.
http://american.lawschoolnumbers.com/stats/0910/
They seem to have a solid acceptance wall for anyone with a 163-164 (sweet for me I guess). But, look at the people who score higher than a 164, they are all like a 50/50 shot between being waitlisted and accepted. How does this make any sense? Some waitlisted candidates have significantly higher GPA and LSAT than those admitted and American's medians.
Here are some really bizarre examples:
166/3.8 - Waitlisted
168/3.76 - Waitlisted
171/3.76 - Waitlisted
172/3.84 - Waitlisted
171/3.98 - Waitlisted?!?!?! What more could they want?
Compared to (Note: I'm not saying these people should not have gotten in, but outside of an incredible resume for these applicants and a murder conviction for the people above, there really is no comparison.)
162/3.41 - Accepted
163/3.2 - Accepted
160/3.47 - Accepted
I get that admissions is more than numbers, but I mean come on the first five on this list are clearly auto-admits. I don't know, this struck me as really odd and I guess a good mystery while I wait for responses. I've noticed that a lot of TLS doesn't have a whole lot of respect for American, anything to do with this phenomenon?

Admission is not more than numbers. American is just fanatical about yield proecting.Birdlaw wrote:Well this makes no sense: check out American's cycle from last year on LSN.

Re: American University 2011 Applicants
So they reject perfectly good applicants because they want to get a high percentages of attendings from their acceptances? Seems really weird and a good way to lose strong students. Although I guess most people with those kind of numbers never end up attending American.
I guess if your waitlisted with stellar numbers you have to convince American that you actually want to go there?
Low self-esteem issues.

It's a narrow strip of greens surrounded by a sea of yellows, the mark of egregious yield protection.

The general counsel of my company used to teach ethics at American. He says it's a great school if you can afford it. I would have applied just for the hell of it, but they didn't send me a waiver.

The female AU admits need to identify themselves.
The admit picture so far screams "cockfest".

Unlike George Mason, American doesn't just "give up" on applicants above both 75ths. They want to be pursued, to have their LOCI fetish satisfied!
Yet interestingly enough, GMU seems to reserve their YP rejections ONLY for candidates above both 75ths. Barring a sub-25th %ile GPA, American does it to most everyone above their 75th %ile LSAT.

Re: American University 2011 Applicants
You know what else is interesting about the American LSN graph for this year (2010-2011) is that they seem to be accepting a fairly good number of reverse-splitters and splitters.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
