Anyone know how common it is to get accepted after being deferred? I applied to their PT program and it is my top choice!!

Sorry for the late reply. Finals are insane right now.angiej wrote:Thanks for chimming in! I wonder if while I'm anxiously awaiting to hear back, if you wouldn't mind answering some questions about your experience as a 1L at Chicago-Kent.as stars burn wrote:I don't get on here much anymore because I'm so damn busy, but I'm currently a 1L at Chicago-Kent, and I absolutely love the school and the students here. I can't say much about the job market or much of anything else really except for the academics. All in all, I love it here.policestate1234 wrote:Any of you guys worried about job prospects from this school? The chicago market I heard was down significantly. Are you all planning to go sticker?
1. How cut-throat is the environment? Are students friendly? Better yet, what is the friendly student to gunner student ratio?
2. How accessible are the professors? Are there posted office hours that one can easily sign up for and attend? Do the profs stick around a few minutes after class to help answer questions?
3. Are you originally from the Chicago area? If you aren't, how have you adjusted to commuting via train, getting around in the City, etc.
Thanks!
Angiej
1. Kent is very laid back. While it is competitive, I don't feel like it's cut-throat at all. I've made some great friends, and everyone is always looking out for the other.
2. My professors are very accessible outside of class. The only professor I got relatively close to was my legal writing professor because of conferences and such. I didn't really talk to my other professors face to face, but I did ask questions through email. I mainly spoke to my TAs on a regular basis face-to-face. My torts TA was the most amazing person ever.
3. I'm originally from a small town in Florida. I've adjusted just fine to the train/winter/walking around. I LOVE Chicago. There is so much culture and stuff to do. Seriously, you couldn't pay me enough money to move back to Florida.
Alright, back to studying for finals. Hope that helped!

I've been in "final review" since 11/30, so today officially marks two weeks. Has anyone else been in final review that long??

Hrm. Status checker says that my admission packet was mailed on 12/9, but here it is 12/14 and nothing has arrived. This would be less irksome if I didn't live perhaps 30 miles from the University.

No worries mine hasn't arrived yet either and my status checker says the same thing.ArghItsBlarg wrote:Hrm. +1 for me too. Since 12-06... how much longer will they take? Its been over a week now. I like to think they are looking at my application and one person on the admission committee is fighting for my survival for acceptance. Kind of like 12 angry men.

Anyone gotten an actual letter in the mail yet? The e-mail said several days, and it's been a week.

I haven't. I got accepted to another school on the same day and I got their package on Monday. Perhaps inclement weather is holding it up?cccZillo wrote:Anyone gotten an actual letter in the mail yet? The e-mail said several days, and it's been a week.

A week seems like an awfully long time! The weather is not "that" terrible.Greg2011 wrote:I haven't received mine, either.Spack wrote:I haven't. Didn't Chicago-Kent release their acceptances last week on Thursday?

Another day's mail and no packet, so I called the Admissions office. They confirmed that the mailings did go out, but that they probably didn't get into the mail system until the 10th.

Maybe they mean the campus mail system. I live just north of IL in Wisconsin and it only takes a letter two days to get here from Chicago. I am hoping today is the day - or at least Saturday. At least an e-mail is better than the crickets I am hearing from Loyola right now.ArghItsBlarg wrote:Another day's mail and no packet, so I called the Admissions office. I have been accepted to DePaul with 18K and I planned on attending. But, I received a email from Kent and loved everything I read. They claimed I would be competitive not only for admission but also for a scholarship ranging from 30k to 80k. Im also interested in patent law and they seem to have a great program.
Did you guys get an email like this? I applied but Im wondering if they send that email to everyone?

My wife informs me that the envelope arrived today. She will now proceed to spend the remainder of her day trying to distract herself from the fact that it's there, but I'm still at work.
Gatorbull - Between DePaul and Kent, I'd go where you can get the most money, but all things being equal, I prefer Kent over DePaul. Kent also historically seems to be a bit more generous with merit scholarships than DePaul.

I just sent mine in Tuesday after they sent me an e-mail saying I have a good shot at the Honors program. They may send it out just based on numbers, but I figure for that kind of money it's worth a shot (and my time to write another essay after I thought I was done!)

I was accepted via email on the 9th and received my snail mail letter with merit scholarship offer today.
